SPRY Adjusting To New Name

SPRY Adjusting To New Name

"I like the name, but I hate the idea that Aaron thought of it." The words of Pete Miller, bass player and long-time Puafua fan, are telling of a band in slow transition from its past to its present. "Aaron's like just this stupid chump who comes up with one good idea and everyone thinks he's the sh-t. I've come up with lots of good ideas. I had the idea of me playing the bass in this band. No one is calling me a genious."

Jeff Siegfried, sax player and former member of Puafua, saw the band's naming differently: "I actually discovered the name Aaron came up with. Yeah, he said it and I realized its potential. Actually, I discovered Aaron. Now my hard work is paying off. I took a big chance on Aaron and the name SPRY. But that's what I do. I follow my instincts and make people like Aaron great. That, truely, takes more talent than actually coming up with a name like SPRY. I laid the groundwork for what you see today. Remember Walt Disney? He's the reason a guy like Donald Duck is world renowned."

Regardless of the individual members' personal feelings about the naming, they all agree that name itself is a good fit for the group. Aaron sumarized: "I think there is a lot more respect coming my way since I created the word SPRY. Sure, people have used a word that sounds similar in the past, but I think I put my mark on the world when I coined SPRY and decided that it meant active and brisk; nimble; energetic; lively; animated. These kinds of major events only happen once in our lifetime. And we have me to thank."

Finally, after the interview, the new drummer, Greg Reierson, a seasoned veteran of the midwestern music scene, added, "Whatever the name, I just think the music is a lot of fun."

"I just think." "I just think." Me, me, me. What an ego.
