Aaron Makes The Sound Guy Cry

We played a gig at the Nor Shor Theater for Rick Boo, and he asked us if we wanted a gig aboard a train for a singles party. We agreed, and made sure we would be in time for our gig the next night in Superior.

When we got off the train the next evening, we rushed to Superior and carried all our stuff up to a little upstairs club. As we were sound checking, we realized that something was very wrong.

Most of the mics were squealing, and the sound was all over the place. We soon found out that the sound guy, for whatever reason, couldn't show up, so he asked his roommate to cover for him. That would have been fine, except his roommate didn't know the first thing about sound, and the Puafua band was a horribly complex band to mix for anyway.

We finally got the sound close to how we wanted it and told the sound guy (the roommate, that is) to try not to screw around too much with the board. But as we began to play, it was evident that the sound thing just wasn't going to work out. Someone would go to sing and the mic would be off, or it would feed back. Then the next mic would feed back. None of the monitors were working, and most of the time the keyboard was turned completely off. We stopped two songs because there was so much feedback.

Finally, when we stopped the second song, Aaron ran back to try to stop all the squealing and told the sound guy in many more words that he was a piece of shit. The sound guy cried, but he did finish the night out, much to our chagrin. It really wasn't his fault -- he was just the roommate.
