Marlys' Little Corner of the World
I was born in Milnor, a small community in the southeastern corner of North Dakota, and grew up on a farm three miles from town. Being the youngest of three children, and the only girl, gave me a special niche in the family.
After graduation from high school, I attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Breckenridge, Minnesota. Three years of hospital based education lead to a diploma in nursing. Upon successfully completing the state board examination, I became licensed as a registered nurse. More time has passed since these events occurred than I like to think about. In August 1998, after five and a half years of attending Minnesota State University - Mankato on a part-time basis, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I work as Clinical Manager at Immanuel-St.Joseph's Hospital - Mayo Health Systems in Mankato, Minnesota. My position requires the supervision of the entire hospital (usually on the night shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.). I am the administrative liaison, clinical resource for nursing personnel, special teams (Code Blue, Disaster, and Trauma) member. If there is action, I'm there. I also substitute for any department that doesn't provide staff during these hours.
Michael is my husband of thirty-six years. We live in the city of Eagle Lake, Minnesota. We enjoy family, sailing, traveling (visiting our national parks), and computing. Here are a couple of pictures taken while while watching humpback whales in Massachusetts during October of 1998.Mike & I shown whale watching near Boston - Fall 1998
My favorite whale picture from two rolls of film I shot.
Kathleen (alias Katie), our first born, lives in Mankato, Minnesota. She is the pharmacy manager at the local Rainbow Food Store. Katie and her husband Tommy, also own TCL World Wide Enterprises. The company develops and expands internet business. Tommy, Katie, and their two children, Peter (born November 1993) and Rachel (born July 1996) moved here from the Chicago suburbs. We love having them close enough to see them all frequently.

Our son, Brendan works for Intel in Arizona doing C development on UNIX. The position involves mostly code development. He has a home in Chandler where he watches the totem pole cactus he planted in the front yard grow to gigantic proportions. He and Chelle were married on October 23, 1999. Chelle took a termination package from her job as a software engineer with Intel. This gave her time to enjoy the final wedding preparations and organize their home. They share their home with "Sami", our grand-dog.

On November 5, 2000, Audrey became a part of their family. Chelle opted to become a "stay at home mom". Audrey has been busy the last few months organizing the entire family.

I enjoy music of all kinds (except acid rock). I am a past member of Sweet Adelines International, a female barbershop singing organization. I enjoy role playing games on the computer and recently failed in an attempt to play Baldur's Gate after having completed Diablo (which took me forever). Police scanners are another interest. I listen to mine with a pillow speaker until I fall asleep at night. I also like to read, and play cards and board games with friends and family.
