DON'T CALL ME A CELEBRITY, SAYS ROYAL HEART-THROB PETER

ROYAL heart-throb Peter Phillips yesterday declared: "We're just a normal happy family trying to get on with our lives." Hunky Peter, 21, was speaking days after his mother Princess Anne had become the victim of an alleged stalker, who tried to drive through the gates of her home, Gatcombe Park. Father-of-two Bernard Quinn, 57, was charged with harassment of police officers after the incident on Sunday night at the Princess's sprawling private estate. Former engineer Quinn is known to have bombarded Princess Anne with love letters and poems and followed her to Vietnam and Africa. But yesterday, at a charity race meet for cancer research in Taunton, Somerset, cool Peter dismissed the incident as "just one of those things". Giving his first television interview, he spoke of life in the spotlight as a popular member of the Royal Family. He said: "I don't really find the interest intrusive- you just get used to it." Peter added: "It's not too bad really. I'm not a real celebrity." Peter was initially unaware of the latest drama surrounding his mother. He said: "I wasn't at home on Sunday night. The first I heard about it was three days later." Silver-haired Quinn once had pictures of Princess Anne plastered over his bedroom walls and he has also written to the Queen, accusing her of torturing the Princess Royal. He also bought a maisonette in Stroud, Gloucestershire, because it was just three miles from Princess Anne's home at Gatcombe Park. Quinn, who u sed to work as a pounds 40,000-a-year chief engineer for Rolls Royce, was arrested on Sunday and quizzed at Stroud Police Station. He was charged with one count of harassment and granted bail on condition that he does not go within a one-mile radius of Gatcombe Park. Keen sportsman Peter, who, along with his mother, is a huge Scottish rugby fan, was at the race day with his long-standing girlfriend, twenty-five-year old American Elizabeth Iorio. The millionaire's daughter was taking part in a celebrity flat race. Devoted Peter said: "Elizabeth is part of the American equestrian team doing three-day eventing. "She's based in this country and she's a very serious rider, but not on the racing circuit." And he revealed: "I was planning to take part, but I was banned. "I was told to lose two stones in two weeks, but I didn't manage it."
