"Dan Paz-Israel" Lions Club (Spanish speaking).

We present the Club's activities for 1999-2001.


Our first formal activity.
Meetting at the Ramada Renaissance Hotel in Tel Aviv
on August 24, 1999, with the presence of Distrit 128,
Governor, Ln Ezra Shamir and the Chairman of the District's New Clubs Committee,
Ln Gary Roth.
In this ocasion we took the formal decision
to create the "Dan Paz-Israel" Lions Club (Spanish speaking).

Second meetting of our Club in formation;
on September 29, 1999, we met in the home of
Rosita and Moshe Barbaras.
On this ocasion we completed
the election of our Board and the Committees,
we decided that our formal meetting place
will be the Maxim Hotel in Tel Aviv and we sketched
our future plans.
Present in the meetting, while visiting Israel and especially invited where,
Rebeca and Leon Benaim, President of CIRCLE, and members of
Maracaibo Lions Club, Venezuela.

On September 1999, our President Lion Touvia (Teddy) Goldstein and our Secretary Lion Zulema Marcovich entered as memebers of CIRCLE (Circulo Cibernetico Leonistico) which is an Internet Lions spanish speaking list.



Our first Oficial Meeting in
Maxim Hotel, Tel Aviv, October 3, 1999,
with the special visit District Governor
Ln Ezra Shamir and his staff.
In this ocasion the District Governor
presented his Plan of Action for 1999/2000.



CHARTER RECEPTION EVENING.

On December 5, 1999, at 20:30 hours,
in the "Eshkol Hapyis" Auditorium in Ramat Gan,
took place the Charter Reception Evening of our Club in the presence of Lions from all Israel, authorities and visitors that filled the auditorium's capacity.

The Master of Ceremonies, PDG Shomshon Zelbiger, to begin the event, invited to take their place at the Honor Table, Mr. Moshe Meron, President of Ramat Gan's Municipal Council, Lion Ezra Shamir, District Governor, Lion Sanny Ronis, Chairman of the Gush Dan Zone, Lion Edna Cohen, President of the Ramat Gan Lions Club, the Sponsoring Club and Lion Gary Roth, Chairman of the District's New Club Committee.

After that the traditional Prayer for Peace, that commences in Israel every Lionistic event, was read in hebrew by Lion Edna Cohen and in spanish by Lion Abraham Markelevich, each of them expressed in his salutations words, praises to the new Lions Club "Dan Paz-Israel".

The Hanukah Candles where lit and blessed by Lion Touvia (Teddy) Goldstein.

Lion Zelbiger requested the Founding Members of the new Club to rise and they all promissed to be faithfull to the Club, to the District and to the International Association of Lions Clubs.
Than he inmidiatly invited Lion Touvia (Teddy) Goldstein, the Club's First President and its initiator and gestor, to take his place in the Honor Table.

PDG Lion Moshe Herzog, performed the very emotive Gavel's Ceremony and Address and handed over the Rulling Gavel to the President.

District Governor invested the new President with the Founding Pin and gave him the Governor' Banner and Pin.

Presient Goldstein signed the Charter Document and after him all the present authorities and than, each of the Founding Members of the Club was called upstage to receive their respective Founding Pin, sign the Charter Document and be congratulated by the authorities.

All Presidents and Delegations from the assisting Lions Club's exchanged Banners with the newly installed President extending to him and the Club their congratulations.

The musical touch during the event was given by Maestro Eduardo Abramson that with his voice and guitar delighted the audience with latin american songs. He receive from the public very long and strong apluses for his excellent performance.

At the end of the event the audience was invited to participate in a Reception where the traditional Hannuka "Sufganiot" (typical seasonal pastry), where not absent.

"PEACE POSTER INTERNATIONAL CONTEST"

One of our first oficial activities of our new Club was
to organize the participation in the "Peace Poster International Contest" of students
of the "Revivim" School in Ganei Tikwah and the "Brener" School in Tel Aviv.
In charge of this project was asigned as Chairlady Lion Estela Markelevich that did an excellent job.

In each of these shools, an event to present the exhibition of the participating posters was organized. Each of the events was very much emotive and after the children's performaces, the Certificates of participations where granted and the Prizes to the winners awarded.

The winner of the "Revivim" School was Dana Stavi and of the "Brener" School, Jana Izakof who was declared the winner to represent the Club in the Israel Contest.

Both events where headed by the Schools' Principals, Ruth Shmuel and Ricky Levy, respectively, the District Governor, Lion Ezra Shamir, the Chairman of the District's Poster Peace Contest Committee, Dan Paz Israel Lions Club, President, Lion Teddy Goldstein, Lion Estela Markelevich, Chairlady of the Club's Polster Peace Co mittee and Governmental and Municpal educational authorities as well as community and parents representatives.

"TURKISH-ISRAELI TWINING"

In the frame of a Gala Dinner held in the "Gal Hotel" in Tel Aviv, on January 8, 2000, the Twining Ceremony between the Istanbul Levent Lions Club from Turkey and the "Dan Paz-Israel" Lions Club of Israel was held.

In the presence of more than 100 Lions amonmg them 50 especially arrived from Istanbul, Turkey and in presence of the Ambassador of Turkey to Israel, HE Mr. Ahmet Uzumcu, Governor District 118-T, Turkey, Lion Aydin Ekterici, Governor District 128, Israel, Lion Ezra Shamir and the Clubs' Presidents, Lions Saban Oruc and Lion Touvia (Teddy) Goldstein respectively signed the Twining Documents in four lenguages: Hebrew, Turkish, English and Spanish. In very emotive words, all the apeakers praised the intensive and effective work that the Lions Clubs do to help the needy and the quick and very positive contribution that Israel and its Lions Clubs gave to the turkish people in need due to the terrible earthquakes that there occured.

Governor Shamir used this ocasion also to give to Governor Ektirici and additional check of U$ 1.000 reqesting him to deliver it to the crresponding authorities in the name of Israel Lions Clubs.

Both Presidents underligned in their words how positive is the Twining of two Lions Clubs in broadening the horizons of each Club.
Among the plans of both Clubs are: the exchange of youths, mutual visitings and collaboration in favor of the needed.

It was a very emotive event that underligned Internationaly the Muslim-Jewish fraternal relationship.

"REGULAR CLUB METTING"

HE Mr. Patricio Samper, Ambassador of Colombia to Israel,delivered his interesting lecture on the subject:
"Latin American Highlights" - a report on Latin America's situation in general and in Colombia in special.
He than delighted the present members with his voice and his guitar singing beautiful and well known romantic "Boleros".



EUROPE INTERNET LIONS CLUB (EILC)

WITH THE AUTHORISATION OF OUR CLUB AND OUR DISTRICT GOVERNOR LION EZRA SHAMIR,PRESIDENT LION TOUVIA (TEDDY) GOLSTEIN, PRESENTED HIS CANDIDACY FOR MEMBERSHIP AT EILC AND WAS ACCEPTED ON JANUARY 10, 2000 AS FOUNDING MEMBER (#22). THIS IS A NEW CLUB CONCEPT YET NOT ACCEPTED BY LIONS INTERNATIONAL. IT FUNCTIONS VIA ELECTRONIC MAIL, BY E-MAIL AND CHATS AND ONCE A YEAR, DURING EUROPE FORUM, ITS MEMBERS MEET IN PERSON. THE FIRST MEETTING WAS HELD DURING FORUM EUROPA1999 IN ANTALIA, TURKEY, AND THE SECON, DURING FORUM EUROPA2000 IN FLORENCE, ITALY, EVENT IN WHICH LION GOLDSTEIN PARTICIPATED.


ESPECIAL AND EXTRAORDINARY MEETTING OF "DAN PAZ-ISRAEL" LIONS CLUB HELD IN HOTEL MAXIM. TEL AVIV,WITH THE PRESENCE OF DISTRICT GOVERNOR, LION EZRA SHAMIR AND HIS CABINET, TO RECEIVE PROF. FERNANDO J. FERNANDEZ, EDITOR OF THE SPANISH EDITION OF THE MAGANINE "THE LIONS" AND HIS WIFE, TELEVISON PRODUCER, MRS. MARIA CARLA DE FERNANDEZ, ESPECIALY INVITED BY THE MINISTRY OF TURISM OF ISRAEL AND "EL AL" IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN A PROFESSIONAL SEMINAR ON OCASION OF THE NEXT VISIT TO ISRAEL OF HIS SS. THE POPE.

OUR CLUB PREPARED AN INTENSIVE PROGRAM FOR THE VISITORS TO VISIT VARIOUS LOCAL LIONS CLUBS AND THEIR SOCIAL WORKS THAT ISRAELI LIONS DO. IN VERY DESCRIPTIVE ARTICLES,PROF. FERNANDEZ, INSPANISH AND INENGLISH, PUBLISHED EXTENSIVE ARTICLES THAT APPEEARD IN VARIOUS EDITIONES OF "THE LIONS". (YOU CAN VIEW THEM INTHE PRESS PAGES OF THIS WEBSITE) AND MRS.FERNANDEZ, PRODUCED A SERIOUS OF TV PROGRAMS SHOWING TO THE CHICAGO AREA RESIDENTS, THE WORK OF LIONS ISRAEL. A FAREWELL MEETTING TO THE COUPLE FERNANDEZ WAS ORGANIZED TOWARDS THE END OF THEIR VISIT, BY THE GOVERNOR'S CABINET WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF OUR CLUB MEMBERS.

On this ocasion we heard the very interesting lecture of the Cultural Anthropologist, Liora Donskoy on the subject:
"Saints Veneration Phenomena in Israel", based on her investigation in order to find answers to why israeli laic youth participate in these religious practices and how they rationalize this with their daily lay life.

As ruled, we elected our 2000-2001 Board. We decided to re-elect the existing one in order for them to complete a full year period.

MONTHLY MEETTING OF "DAN PAZ-ISRAEL" LIONS CLUB, WEDNESDAY 5.4.2000, AT HOTEL MAXIM IN TEL AVIV, 86 HAYARKON ST.,AT 20:00 HOURS.

IN THIS OCASION, WE UNDERLIGN THE REPORT OF THE CHARITY COMMITTEE THAT INFORMED ABOUT THE PROJECT OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF 200 PRESENTS WITH SUGERLESS COKIES, DELIVERED TO YOUTH DIABETIC CHILDREN.


LEONISTIC ISRAELY AMBASSADORS IN BANGKOK, THAILAND.

ON THE 6 OF MARCH, 12 MEMBERS OF OUR CLUB, WHERE FRATERNALY WELCOMED BY THE "PRAMAHANARKORN" LIONS CLUB IN BANGKOK, PRESIDED BY LION MRS.SUPA MANATHANYA.
IT WAS VERY IMPRESIVE TO OUR DELEGATION TO SEEUPON OUR ARRIVAL TO THE MEETTING HALL IN A VERY UN CENTRAL HOTEL IN BANGKOK, A BIG SIGN GIVIN US A WARM WELCOME.
AFTER LISTENING TO THE THY ENTHEM IN HONOR OF HIS MAJESTY THE KING, WHOSE PICTURE WAS PRESENT, WE, THE VISITORS WHERE ASKED TO SING THE ISRAELI NATIONAL ENTHEM "HATIKVAH". WE DID WITH VERY STRON EMOTION UNDER THESE ESPECIL CIRCUMSTANCES.
A BANQUET, WITH EXCELLENT THAI DELICATESSEN, WAS SERVED OCASION THAT WAS USED TO GET ACQAINTED LOCAL LIONS WITH US THE VISITORS. BR> AT THE END OF THE MEAL AND AFTER THE PROTOCOL SALUTES DELIVERED BY BOTH PRESIDENTS AND THE BANNER EXCHANGES, THE LOCAL CLUB DEALT WITH THEIR REGULAR BUSINESS DISPOSING OF A TRANSLATOR IN ORDER TO MAKE THINGS UNDERSTOOD BY THE VISITORS.
DURING THE MEETTING, LION TOUVIA GOLDSTEIN, INVITED THE HOSTING CLUB MEMBERS TO VISIT ISRAEL AND PROPOSED THAT EVENTUALLY A TWINNING BETWEEN THE CLUBS BE PROGRAMMED, SUGGESTION THAT WAS VERY POSITIVELY RECEIVED.
FINALLY, AT THE END OF THE MEETTING,THE HOSTING LIONS INVITED THE VISITORS TO JOIN THEM IN TYPICAL THAI DANCES THAT THEY TOUGHT LEARNT IN THIS OCASION TO THE VISITORS.

JULITA AND PACO QUINTAS INFORMED THAT THEY ARE PLANNING TO TAKE A CRUISE NEXT SEPTEMBER THAT WILLMAKE A STOP AT THE PORT OF ASHDOD ON THE 24TH. IT WAS AGREED TO TO MEET THEM SOMEHOW DURING THEIR VISIT TO THE HOLY LAND.

BY INITIATIVE OF OUR CLUB AND WITH THE COLLABORATION OF THE LATIN AMERICAN ORGANIZATION IN ISRAEL "OLEI" REHOVOT BRANCH, WE ORGANIZED A"USED SPANISH BOOKS FAIR" WITH BOOKS THAT WHERE GETHERD IN A DONATION CAMPAIGN THAT WE MADE AND LATER SOLED IN THE FAIR.
US$1.000 WHERE COLLECTED AND DESTINED PARTIALLY TO THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE OF VENEZUELA HURT BY THE TERRIBLE FLOODS AND PART DONATE DIDACTIC MATERIAL TO TWO ETHIOPIAN NEW INMIGRANTS KINDERGARTENS IN REHOVOT.

MONTHLY MEETING OF "DAN PAZ-ISRAEL" LIONS CLUB

DEDICATED MAINLY TO THE AMPLE REPORT OF THE DELEGATION OF OUR CLUB AND OF LIONS ISRAEL TO THE EUROPEFORUM 2000 IN FLORENCE AND THE TWINNING CEREMONY IN VIAREGGIO.

Grand Caffe Margherita, beautiful place where the extraordinary banquet and double Twinning Ceremony of the Lions Clubs "Dan Paz-Israel" and "Hod Hasharon" of Israel and "Massa & Carrara Host" and "Livorno" respectively, took place.

On our way to Viareggio from Rome, we visited among other italian cities,Venice. There we met a good friend, Dr. Mario Rocchi and his lovley wife Nadia that did their utmost to attend us.
Knowing that we are Lions, they organized for us a dinner with Lions of the region. It was a very nice and emotive encounter. At the "La Baita" Restaurant near to Treviso, specialties "all mushrooms", we met Lion Paolo Valvo of Dese Site" Lions Club, Lion Piergiorgio Bertochi of "Eleonora Duse: Lions Club and Past President of this Club Lion Elina Pontirolo.

MONTHLY MEETING OF "DAN PAZ-ISRAEL"LIONS CLUB.

LECTURE DELIVERED BY ADVOCATE MR. JAIME ARON, FORMER ISRAEL AMBASSADOR IN COLOMBIA AND NOW PRESIDENT OF THE ISRAEL-LATINOAEMRICA, SPAIN AND PORTUGAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, "COMMERCIAL RELATIONS BETWEEN ISRAEL AND LATIN AMERICA".

"INTERNATIONAL PEACE POSTER CONTEST"-2000/01

THIS YEAR, AS WE DID LAST ONE, OUR CLUB PARTICIPATED IN THE "PEACE POSTER INTERNATIONAL CONTEST" SPONSORING TWO SCHOOLS: "GANIM" SCHOOL OF GANEI TIKWA AND "RIMONIM" SCHOOL OF KIRYAT ONO. BOTH VERY SUCCESFUL PARTICIPATIONS.
IT IS WORTHY TO MENTION THAT OUR "PEACE POSTER" COMMITTE CHAIRLADY, LN ESTELA MARKELEVICH, DUE TO HER GREAT SUCCESS IN BOTH YEARS, HAS BEEN SELECTED TO BE THE CHAIRLADY OF THE DISTRICT'S PEACE POSTER CONTEST COMMITTEE FOR 2001-02.

Invited by the Mayor of Jerusalem Hon. Mr. Ehud Olmert, we participated in the Opening Ceremony of the "Anual Conference of Mayors in Jerusalem" in it participated the Maayor of Carrara, Italy, Hon. Mr. L.XXXX.
In coordinaiion withour twin club, "Massa & Carrara Host" Lions Club, on this ocasion we talked withMayor XXXX about the marble statutes exhibition that bi-anualy the Municipality of Carrara organizes. We undertook the search and selection of two israeli artist and one palestinian to participate participate in this year's exhibition that will deal with the subject of the Holocaust and Peace.

PROJECT "POSTCARDS TO VERY SICK CHILDREN INTHE WORLD".

OUR CLUB ADOPTED THIS VERY NICE INTERNATIONAL PROJECT OF SENDING POSTCARDS TO VERY SICK CHILDREN. THIS PROJECT IS CARRIED oOUT BY THE INTERNET LIONS CLUB "LIONS ON LINE" (LOL) AND IT WAS THE INITIATIVE OF LION BOB STANLY THAT RECEIVED THE "MELVIN JONES AWARD" FOR IT.

IN JULY, WE HAD THE VISIT IN ISRAEL FOR ITS FIFTH TIME OF THE FOLCLORIC BALLET OF CHILE "BAFOCHI", THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE "CARMIEL" INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL.
AS IN THE PREVIOUS TIMES,THE ISRAEL CHILE CULTURAL INTITUTE ORGANIZED A SERIE OF PERFORMENCES IN ISRAEL AS DESCRIBED IN THE PROGRAM BELOW.
"DAN PAZ-ISRAEL" LIONS CLUB CO-PATROCINATED THE PERFORMANCE IN PETACH TIKWA, ON JULY 14, 2001.

THE CLUB'S GAVEL IS TRANSFERED FORM THE FIRST FOUNDING PRESIDENT (1999-2000), LION TOUVIA (TEDDY) GOLDSTEIN, TO PRESIDENT ELECT, LION MOSHE BARBARAS (2000-2001).
