Also the fire caused burns to the father and mother Ayelet.
Ravid was hospitalized in Sheba Medical Center (Tel Hashomer) and the doctors informed the family that the girl had not many survival possibilities. At the beginning she passed surgery and afterwards she was hospitalized in the Children rehabilitation Center.
Ravid showed a big courage and fortitude to face the painful care wounds. At the end of 2007 the physicians informed the Sulam family that in order to continue the treatment they recommended to send the child to the Cincinnati Hospital in Ohio. U.S.A specialized in this kind of burns.

A trip in remembrance of the 60 years of the State of Israel.

In the pursuit of the Egyptian Army, 1948. Latin-americans in the Independence War On Saturday , November 15th, 2008, 30 members of our Club Members and 20 guests from OLEI Herzlia-Ramat Hasharon and Raanana set off in a very comfortable bus towards the South of the country in order to remember, to honor and to learn about the events that took place in our country between May and November 1948. Lic. Samuel Leillen, , was the guide in charge to explain to the participants ,throughout the trip, his spectacular stories, about the places and the events that occurred in that period. The first place they reached was Kibutz Negba, community which was founded as part of the program “Choma u Migdal” ( Wall and Tower ) . They went on visiting first the cemetery of the fallen combatants of May 1948 (where 43 out of 150 combatants are buried , 3 of them of latinoamerican origen) and the beautiful monument of the known artist Natan Rappaport.
Afterwards, part of the group, had the opportunity to greet and speak with Raanana, pioneer of Chilean origin who, with her broad smile and a surprising sympathy, said she was very happy to meet the visitors and grateful to them. Raanana is an admirable mythological personality of that period , living evidence of the bravery and love of the Sionists who established our Country.
The visitors had he opportunity to see the Water Tower that shows the impact of the Egyptians bullets. After a light meal our members continue their trip and arrived to Kibutz Yad Mordechai, located 10 Km from Ashkelon and 4 Km from de Gaza Strip, established on 1943, few months after the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and named after Mordechai Anilevich, commandant of the ZOB, (the Jewish Combat Organization or the Zydowska Organizacja Bojowa ). In Yad Mordechai 180 combatants tried to delay the Egyptian army in its way to the North. The tour also included a visit to the Electricity Tower painted in blue and decorated with 73 different drawings of doves in memory of the 73 soldiers who died when two IDF helicopters collided in midair above the settlement of She’ar Yashuv in the North of the country. They were painted by Yossi Peled who in addition of being the president of the electricity company, was also an artist. Following this, the group walked 700 meters to the “Tom and Tomer Forest”, also in remembrance of the 73 fallen soldiers. They continue visiting an outdoor exposition (audio-visual) which tells the story of the six days battle against the Egyptians and afterwards they visited the monument erected in Mordechai Anilevich’s memory, also done by the sculptor Nathan Rappaport. Later the visitors received an explanation (which included another audio-visual) on the secrets of the honey elaboration, also called apiculture. It is worth remembering that kibutz Yad Mordechai produces the 50% of the honey consumed in Israel, in addition to olive oil and different products derived from both.
After lunch the group continued to kibutz Nitzanin where they were greeted by Nava , who was born in Kibutz Nitzanin and whose father participated in the War of Independence. In May 1948 a group of 141 members, among them a number of latinamerican new immigrants, joined the struggle to arrest the advance of the Egyptians troops whose objectives was to capture Tel-Aviv. 37 fighters died in the battle. Afterwards they visited the Memorial Museum and saw a movie related the events that took place in Nitzanim in May 1948. Following this, Nava completed the story of the events, the different interpretations, the feeling of political discrimination, the destruction and the kibutz re-establishment.
The group went on to visit the exposition of photographs of the kibutz members that fall in the battle pointing out to the latinamericans among them. It is worth to recall that among the photographs the visitors aware of an empty spot. This place is kept in honor of one of the defenders who due to the pressing situation joined, and died in battle without identifying himself, therefore neither his name is known nor his picture was found.
Next they visited the place where the works of the sculptor Moshe Ziffer are exposed. After enjoying the beautiful view that can be seen from that point , they continue to the South of Ashdod , to the “Guesher Ad-Halom” ( Up to Here Bridge), which reminds that after the Egyptians had penetrated into Israel were stopped near the bridge , only 40 Km South of Tel Aviv. Before arriving to the mention bridge there is a Monument in honor of the Egyptian soldiers that fall in Israel. By the same token in the Egyptian side there is a Monument in memory of the Israeli soldiers who fell in that country. Both monuments are part of the Peace Agreement between the two nations.
We want to emphasize a profound gratitude to the marvelous labour done by the Lic.Samuel Leillen. Those wonderful stories enriched the trip to the participant’s delight
