FAMILY DRIVE
We all piled into the red stationwagon;
nine kids and my folks filled the car.
Three of us sat in the rear facing seat;
having fun while we traveled afar.

It's a holiday trip to a relatives place.
They seemed to live so far away.
The trip felt like it took hours,
and the majority of  a day.

We played a little car game,
as we looked out the window in back.
Every third car would belong to me.
Nice car, "Woe!!" A bomb we'd say "ack!"

Just passing the time as the car rolled onward,
was a challenge in itself.
We would have played many different games.
Alas, we forgot them at home on the shelf.

My family's never been real close,
except when we all piled into that ol' car.
We were crammed in, shoulder to shoulder,
as we cruised along the tar.

Now and then there were arguments.
The car echoed with the sound of the fight.
It didn't take too long though,
till mom and dad made it right.

That ol' car has long been replaced.
In my heart its memory lives still.
That car helped make us a closer family.
  A better family "fix" then any known pill.
