Grandpa and Jimmy worked together as a team.
They hauled in a big one that day.
With a large beaming smile,
Jimmy let it swim away.
Walking home, hand in hand,
two men; one 6; and one 75.
With each other, life was great.
They were happy and felt so alive.
Many moments they spent together.
Alas, Grandpa was not doing so well.
He knew his time here was soon to end.
His grandson, he didn't know how to tell.
Grandpa called for Jimmy one day.
Jimmy climbed up on his knee.
He told his grandson he loved him.
Together, they'd always be.
That was the day Grandpa told Jimmy,
his time on earth soon would be done.
He'd soon watch over him from Heaven,
watch him grow, live, love, and have fun.
Jimmy had tears in his eyes,
when he looked up at his dear grandpa's face.
He said, "Grampa, Jesus must really love you,
cuz He'll be bringing you home to his place."
Now both of them smiled and hugged.
They couldn't imagine being apart.
Yet they knew that thee other would never be far,
because of the love each had in his heart.
On a cold and blustery winter's day,
Jimmy's grandpa passed away.
He looked up to the heavens and saw,
his grandma showing grandpa the way.
Hand in hand, side by side,
but then they stopped and turned around.
They both sent back their love for Jimmy.
Into his heart, he could feel it bound.
The rest of his life, when he was fishing,
and he'd just caught his biggest of the day,
he could tell his grandpa was smiling,
as he released it and watched it swim away.
