I sit outside in the darkness.
I watch the sun go down.
Everything slowly gets more quiet,
as the world starts winding down.
I kick back and just listen,
to the sound of silence around me.
Surprise over takes me as I realize,
the night has a life of its own.
Crickets harmonize and play,
a sweet romantic song.
A bat swoops down to listen,
but alas, he doesn't stay long.
The wind blows lightly through the trees,
joining the night time choir.
The branches begin to sway to the beat.
They never seem to tire.
The moon rises high into the sky.
The night light awakens an owl.
The song rises high till it reaches its ears.
Inspired, it begins to hoot and howl.
The night's song lifts me up.
I feel like I can grab onto a star.
The serenity touches my very soul.
My mind travels to places afar.
