The World Trade Center and Pentagon Remembered
by Babette Johnson
I watched the world fall ‘in’ today
As it crumbled to the ground
It moaned and shrieked
And belched with fire
Moments later was a useless mound.
I watched it repeatedly again and again
As the devastation played out before me
As that jet liner
Flew right into its side
Bold as brass for all America to see.
I too watched the endless pictures
Symbols for the free and the proud
Were blatantly raped
And carelessly destroyed
Smoke and ashes now cover them like a shroud.
I heard it compared to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii
That awful Sunday morn’ which has haunted
That was the military
Fighting the military
Over a small piece of land which they wanted.
Today it was much different than ever before
Today they just don’t know what they started
You mess with us
And you will pay the price
America’s never been one who’s half-hearted.
America may seem like they’re lazy and bored
Like getting it’s shit together it just can’t
But as Yamamoto once said
And was so aptly quoted
“All we’ve done is awakened a sleeping giant.”
Enough about assholes who committed this crime
They will all have their day before God
Where we need focus
And continued strength in
Is on those workhorses whom they themselves shod.
Today let us pray and give continual thanks
To the men, women and children who were there
Who heard the screams
And felt the dust
Let’s give praise and show them that we care.
Sometimes I think we should call ourselves Phoenix
In adversity we shall rise out of ALL the ash
With head held high
And honor in our souls
Even though radicals with our hope try to dash.
I am prouder today than I can recall in my life
That I live in a land like the U. S. of A.
Its people are heroes
Its land is so rich
And we will stand toe-to-toe through the fray.
Lady Liberty stood in the harbor beyond
Observing this heinous, most cowardly site
Like we all did
She too wept a bit
Now her golden torch she holds all the more tight.
“Give me your tired, your hungry, your poor…”
But never tread on me…because if you do
My face may be green
And my arms, too
But I’m backed by the RED, WHITE and BLUE.
God Bless America
God Bless those victims
"Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they've done."
