REPATRIATION CEREMONY FOR REMAINS OF UNACCOUNTED-FOR AMERICANS RECOVERED IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA AND VIETNAM HICKAM AFB, HAWAII -- Remains believed to be unaccounted-for Americans recovered in Papua New Guinea and Vietnam will arrive home to American soil Tuesday, April 20. A joint honor guard will commemorate the arrival in a ceremony at 9 a.m., outside Hangar 35 on Hickam Air Force Base. A search and recovery team from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command recently recovered what is believed to be the remains of 11 American servicemen who died during World War II.
