Rennes Sights

We got into Rennes on Easter Sunday...yep, spent Easter on a train. This also means our hotel was closed until 18h30 when we went to check in (though we didn't know that until we got there!) so we ended up going to my host family's house and spending the night there instead, which was fine with me cuz we had a free supper and didn't pay for that night at the hotel!!!

The next day

(Monday)

we had some issues again checking in because it took us over an hour to get into town after missing 2 buses and walking all the way to the subway station, PLUS the hotel was actually closed when we got there, but finally at 1pm we had our luggage dropped off and started off on a walk around the town. Justin got to experience kebabs from my favorite place (the american equivalent of gyros i think) and then we walked up through Place Hoche and up to IGR (which you can see on one of my other pages!)

... everything was pretty closed up though, and we didn't realize until later that in France, the Monday AFTER Easter is also considered a national holiday!! Lol... at any rate, we ended up spending some time just relaxing/dozing off on the grass in Thabor Garden (le jardin du Thabor) which was great anyway!! SOOO gorgeous there...

Justin in the garden.

Check out those tulips. :)

That evening we went back out to my host family's house to celebrate Easter because Anne and Christian and Benji had just gotten home from vacation at l'Ile de Ray (sp?). We searched for hidden chocolates in the backyard (the French equivalent of the easter egg hunt!) and had pizza. :) However, we also had appetizers, an apertif of champagne, and dessert, so not exactly just pizza!! lol...

Tuesday

Justin and I did a day trip to Saint Malo, a city that's right up on the northern coast of France, about an hour by train from my city of Rennes. The old part of the city was a walled city, and it's super cool to walk around the ramparts and watch all of the ships coming in and going out of port.

what a view!

That evening we just chilled at the hotel and Manda, Greta, and Nate all came over for a few drinks and to sit and laugh and talk and read magazines. Fun just to chill...

Wednesday

we got up and headed out into the downtown again to check out the old part of the city. I brought Justin to my favorite little creperie (Créperie des Portes Mordelaises) for lunch and then we did some souvenir shopping. Had to head out my to house again that afternoon so I could pack a suitcase of stuff for justin to lug home for me (thank you so much!) and we ended up having supper with the fam again and playing basketball with the boys afterwards. First time I've done that, but we had a blast and played until it was too dark to see the ball!!!

Thursday

... Justin's final day in France... just relaxed and spent time together basically!! We'd originally intended to do a day-trip to Mont Saint Michel, but just too tired of spending money and being on the go, so instead we bummed around, had lunch at the house, took a nap, finished shopping for souvenirs, and just relaxed! Somehow, someway, justin actually managed to get everything into his suitcases, and that night we went ou for a beer with Nate, Xavier, and Fabien. Nothing too crazy though cuz we had to be up at 5am to go to the station to catch Justin's train!!!

back in the hotel after the bar...

Sucked to say goodbye at 6am that next morning, but what can ya do? At least I know he got safely on the train, with 3 suitcases, one of which broke a wheel 5 minutes before!!! Can't thank you enough for everything Justin...
