Tri-County FCCLA Chapter Events

In the fall of 2001, all of the members of the Tri-County FCCLA chapter attended the Region 8 Fall Meeting at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Roseau, Minnesota. Mrs. Anderson, our advisor, was unable to attend this meeting, so we were accompanied by two of the parents: Irene Johnson and Kathy Hanson. We attended workshops, participated in the Chapter Cheer Competition, and made a Tiki Torch with our chapter goals written on it. We also listened to three guest speakers: a mother with a child with Down's Syndrome, a veteran, and a young cancer survivor.

In November 2001, our chapter worked together with some of the Family and Consumer Sciences students to collect non-perishable food items for our local food pantry during the Elementary and High School Christmas concerts.

As a chapter fundraiser we put on a dance on December 15th, 2001. We purchased lights and we provided the the music ourselves, using a computer and music downloads off of Morpheus, an online file-sharing program. A lot of work went into the dance. We had to get it approved by our school principal, and round up eleven chaperones. On the day of the dance we had to decorate and set up our lighting and music equiptment. It took a long time to find the right computer, but after three tries, we finally got it up and running. Our dance went well overall, even though there were a few computer 'glitches' and we had to switch to CD's. While we were reorganizing, Tanner Lofstrom, one of our Junior High members, warmed the crowd up with some improvised stand-up comedy...(as if the chaperones had not gone through enough, they were one of the main subjects...!) It was loads of fun, and a great learning experience.

Our whole chapter is State bound. At the Mid-Winter Meeting we competed in talent and STAR Events. All of our STAR Events earned gold ratings, so seven of us are going to compete. Our talent didn't advance, but they did well, as the competition was tough. WISH US LUCK!!!!! For information about STAR Events, click here.
