"For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession. "-Deuteronomy 7:6
I'm trying to find a picture that resembles a dove
Shalom! Welcome to the Jewish Outreach Homepage! I decided to make this website to inform people of this rural college community (Morris) in west central Minnesota. We don't have any Jewish synagouges (I've been to Messianic Synagogues in the Twin Cities-see Judaism); however, we do have a small minority population of Jewish people.
How does the small nation of Israel (about the size of Delaware according to some sources) get so much attention in the world news media?
Q: Did you know where the name "Israel" came from?
A: "Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, [ Israel ] means [ he struggles with God ] . ] because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."-Genesis 32:28
Peace in the Middle East?
This has been a topic for many many years since Israel became a state in 1948. Below are some links I found relating to the peace process:
My first recollection of learning about the Jewish people was through the movie "Ten Commandments", starring Charleston Heston. Known as Hebrews before being name "Israelites" or "Jews", they were slaves in the land of Egypt before being delivered to the "Promise Land". I loved and still love watching this movie, especially during the Easter Holiday season. After coming to a personal relationship with God-Jehovah, I've came to a more fuller knowledge and understanding of God's "chosen people".
Back in High School, I remember going through the emotional inspiring book "Diary of Anne Frank". This book touch me and many of my classmates when we were required to read this. I didn't really have much of a understanding why Jews were treated the way they were. After my increase in knowledge of Scripture, I've become more sensitive and open to understanding the "chosen people".
What is Zionism?
After reading about Jewish people on the internet, I ran into the word "zionism". I've heard about this before, but I decided to research more on this...
-"They will look on me, the one they have pierced (NT: John 19:37), and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son."-Zechariah 12
*Below are some wars that I remembered reading-the Bible and history books in the past-where God has made his promise according to Scriptures:
"On that day the LORD will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the Angel of the LORD going before them. 9 On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem."-Zechariah 12
-"They will look on me, the one they have pierced (NT: John 19:37), and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son."-Zechariah 12
"As long ago as Biblical times, cultural and linguistic differences between Jewish communities even within the area of Judea are observed both within the Bible itself as well as from archeological remains. The full extent of these differences, however, is unknown. Following the defeat of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, the Jewish people were dispersed throughout the Middle East, especially in Egypt, Yemen and Mesopotamia. By the height of the Roman Empire, Jewish communities could be found in nearly every notable settlement throughout the Empire, as well as scattered communities found in settlements beyond the Empire's borders in northern Europe and in Africa. In the east, Jewish communities could be found throughout Parthia and in empires even further east including India and China. Jews could also be found in eastern Europe and southwestern Asia."
