Where served: Cu Chi
When served: 1967- Feb,1968
Message is: I'm trying to remember some of the people's names at Cu Chi.
I'm Jack Carswell.
I transferred to the 242 from the 213th at Phu Loi sometime
in the summer of 67.I remember we were at the airfield at
Bien Hoa and bunked in town. I worked on the night crew at the
flight line in Cu Chi.
I bunked in the last building on the road next to the tanks that
fired all day long.
I was there when the Cong tried to come thru the fence at the sheetmetal
shop where I worked one night. I left Nam in Feb 68 and was sent to
Fort Bragg until Feb 69. I cannot remember the E-5 who was over the sheetmetal
shop there. Contact me at E-mail: enola@hci.net

Message is:I can't believe I finally stumbled on a 242nd webpage!
My name is Jim Hume and I served
with the 242nd from Feb,67, at Fort Benning, thru late Jan, '68, at Cu Chi.
I worked in Operations, but was actually an air traffic controller
and the Army eventually realized they didn't need controllers
pulling ops duty and such all over Vietnam. I ended up in the 346th ASD
in Dong Tam and Vinh Long, but still part of the 1st AB.
I missed out on the Tet disaster at Cu Chi, and went through that time while
traveling about the country looking for my new unit. That was fun!
I'd like to make contact with other members of the 242nd who
served about the time I did and I would like to know if we
lost anyone during 1968. We hadn't suffered any KIAs when I
left in Jan, '68.
Good work on the webpage. Take care.
Jim Hume, ex-SP-5, 93B20, ex-Muleskinner.
