Live Through This was released on April 12th, 1994. It was slow-selling at first, but was soon proclaimed Album Of The Year by numerous magazines. However, rumors were flying that Kurt Cobain wrote most of the material for the album. This has been denied by the band, of course. The album has been said to be one of the best albums of the decade. The album is much different from Hole's debut, Pretty On The Inside. Less loud and angry, and described as much easier to listen to, it has some slow songs and, thanks to Kristen Pfaff, featured some parts with piano.

Four days before Live Through This was released, Kurt Cobain was found dead in the Cobain's greenhouse. However, this was not the only tragedy Hole, and especially Courtney Love, would be forced to endure. Not two months after Kurt killed himself, Kristen Pfaff died from a heroin overdose. She died in her bathtub at the age of 24. Her death was ruled an accident rather than suicide, however. She was planning on leaving Seattle for her hometown the following day. Her death affected Eric Erlandson the most; they had formed a tight friendship and were very close.

The album's last track is listed as "Rock Star", but the final track is actually "Olympia". The song "Rock Star" contains the lyrics: "How'd you like to be Nirvana? F*cking barrel of laughs in Nirvana, you'd rather die..I'd rather die." The song was changed at the last minute, but it was too late to change the artwork.
