Ok, this is My interpretation of Hole's second single off of Celebrity Skin (kik ass cd, by the way),MALIBU, anyways..before I continue..I will not go with the masses and say this is about Kurt Cobain. It may or may not be, but damnit, I like to think this song is about Kristen Pfaff. Don't laugh. It COULD be, ok? Anyways..

This quote, to me sound like she is "asking" Kristin how she could give in, take away her life like that, y'know?

Ok, Kristen was supposedly going to go back home to escape the drug-scene. So this "Malibu" reference might mean her home. Malibu is usually considered a utopia, right?

This means that Courtney knew what Pfaff was going through...the wHole rock star thing was getting to Kristin and the band was killing her.*** So, that is my interpretation. "Malibu" is a beautiful pop song about redemption and saving a fragile spirit..definite Kurt reference...or Jeff Buckley as well. Courtney said she has a love affair with the town, and she feels invigorated when she visits there..
