She was professional, doing a job, and I felt sorry. If she hadn't been so hurt along the way (Cincinatti?) maybe we would have seen Courtney. Instead she sang straight into the mike, eyes straight ahead, perfect - just like on the record. I don't know how she made those sounds standing there so perfect.
She responded to the hecklers only. She didn't seem to realize the crowd was filled with musicians, spiritual people, intellectuals, peers. Instead she heard the, "Play you f*ckin' b*tch, play!" and the, "You're a w*ore, Courtney. Show us your t*ts."
She started with "Please, the plane was late, I'm sorry." Later she turned lights on us, "There, you like it? How does it feel?" Later she grabbed a sponge guitar and hit the jerks at her feet. Then she threw a paper cup of water at them. And she kept singing inbetween - totally professional. Finally she hit the ultimatum, "Do that again and I'm walking off the stage." She was so beautiful, looking straight ahead one minute then eyes flashing to the side, in fear, at risk, vulnerable. She didn't even have her makeup persona to hide behind.
The whole thing was weird from the lack of promotion to the concert site.
People don't seem to understand CL's essence or what made her or Kurt a success - art is screaming with pain and having it come out beautiful.
