On Promotions and Ranks (continued)5. MastersWhen you reach Master status in the SmithCraft, it means you have reached a level of expertise in your area of the craft. The following is expected of SmithCraft Masters:
The apprentices and journeyman appointed to you are basically under your control. They can be sent on errands, and they will assist you in projects whenever needed. A Master will not abuse this relationship. 6. Subcraft head/Apprentice MasterWhile the head of a subcraft and the apprentice master CAN (and possibly will) be Journeymen, it is prefferable that they be a master. For each position, a j'man would be like an intern. Fully capable, but still learning. You are in charge of knowing what goes on in your subcraft. It would be nice if some OOC studying went into it, so that if you're a glass worker, you know the difference between an lathe and a muller. However, we don't always have the time. If you are able to, email the information with the keeper of the web page, and they will add it to the SmithCraft HomePage.
Surprise! You're in charge of ALL the apprentices, so be prepared to promote, demote, anoy, tease, harass and insult them. Well, not really, but you are the master/j'man most involved with their lives, and you should be there to help out any disputes, encourage RP etc. Apprentice welfare, health and attitude really is your
7. CraftsecondIn progress. In progress. The mentoring system is whereby apprentices have the option to be 'taken on' by a journeyranker/master, who will be, in a sense, their 'special buddy'. A mentor is, ICly speaking, someone superior in rank to you; to whom you have been assigned to report to primarily; and who is responsible for you. However, this is not meant to limit the scope of your contact with other smiths - by no means is a mentor the only person a Smith can talk to, do errands for, take classes from, develop relationships with, etc. There are two main reasons for the mentoring system:
Mentoring of apprentices in the smith is done mostly by the Subcraft Masters, but not only. Someone interested in mentoring apprentices may volunteer to take on as many as they wish. Apprentices wishing to have a mentor should +mail the apprentice master with the following information:
(Note that participation in the mentoring system is optional.) The request will be forwarded to the appropriate people, who will then fight among themselves as to who gets to take on the new apprentice. Every effort will be made to mentor an apprentice to someone:
b. who has similar online hours to the apprentice and c. whom the apprentice wishes to be apprenticed to. Journeymen may also have mentors, if they so choose. Any Weaver of master rank may be a mentor to a journeyranker - please note that this includes NPC masters! Apprentices who are mentored to a journeyranker who is mentored to a master are considered to be, ICly, "under the jurisdiction" of that master, whether PC or NPC. It is preferred, for the sake of canon, that journeymen in a subcraft be mentored to masters of the same subcraft. Journeymen wishing to create an NPC master as their mentor should +mail the CM's and the Apprentice Master with a character sketch of that NPC. Journeymen wishing to have an already-established NPC master as their mentor should +mail the Craftmaster with the NPC's name. Journeymen wishing to have a PC master as their mentor should +mail that master to indicate their interest. Any questions you may have about the mentoring system can be directed to the CM's, apprentice master or your mentor. Forward
