"Listen to me"

I have cerebral palsy, and I would like people to understand about different disabilitys. I have many friends who are more challenged with cerebral palsy than I am. Their wheel chairs are their legs and they are very successful. Nothing keeps them down.

Cerebral palsy is not a disease, it is a condition. You can not cure it but you can help it along. When I was a baby the doctors told my mom I woud never walk. With my determination and my mother exercing my arms and legs all the time, I can walk now and do many things.

I remember one time when I was four years old, I had to use a walker to help me walk. My famiy and friends were having a picnic. All the kids were racing up and down the drive way. It looked like so much fun, I wanted to get in on it. I felt left out because I was having a hard time with my walker. I deceided at that time, my walker was in my way, so I picked it up and threw it in the yard, and tried to run down the drive way. Everyone was so scared I was going to break my neck! You see, that was the first time I walked without my walker.

Listen to me! I am trying to make a point! It doesn't matter what type of disability a person has, If you want something bad enough and are determined enough, you can do anything you want. Look at Miss America, Helen Kellen and President Roosevelt. Speaking of president Roosevelt, did you know he was paralyzed early in life from polio? Most of the american people didn't know he was disabled. The press hid it at all times. Maybe they thought the American people would not accept a president in a wheel chair. If Roosevelt was president today, the American people would accept him all the way.

There are so many people in this world who have accomplished the impossible. I plan to follow in their footsteps and think positive all the way.
