Beltane/May Day

May 1

Beltane is the major Sabbat principally considered a time of unashamed human sexuality and fertility. The name Beltane is derived from the Gaelic Bealtaine meaning "Bel-fire" (the fire of the Celtic God of Light Bel, Beli or Belinus). The traditional date for this Sabbat is when the Sun is 15 degrees Taurus.

Things generally associated with Beltane: maypole, flower crowns, fires, sensuality, fertility, crop blessings, jumping bonfires, flower baskets, mating, green and all colors.

It is the end of the Growing Tide and the beginning of the Reaping Tide.
