I come forth with wand in hand to dance upon the Goddess' land as I mark the turning of the year; Harvest Home/Mabon now is here.
This mid-Autumn day signals the death of Llew, and the triumph of Balor. It is a time to give thanks for the second harvest, and to meditate on the cycles of death and rebirth.
In times past, now is when geese were fattened and taken to market, the garnering of the fruits of wood and orchard would take place, and pumpkins and root vegetables were saved. Produce was displayed to show how successful the year had been. It is the end of the Reaping Tide, and the beginning of the Resting Tide.
It is a time for reflection, for sorting the seeds for next year's planting.
MEDITATE ON PAST
I celebrate the death of Llew. He stands on the balance, with one foot on the cauldron and the other on the goat. Thus he is betrayed by the Virgin, and transformed into an eagle. This is the time of the year when night conquers day.
MEDITATE ON MEANING
Let me enter the path of Darkness, and peradventure, there shall I find the Light. From an Abyss of Darkness came I forth ere my birth, from the silence of a primal sleep. And, to an abyss of darkness shall I return in my death, to be born of the darkness again.
MEDITATE ON CYCLE OF LIFE AND DEATH
Lady of the Moon; Lord of the Sun; Protect me and mine, now Sabbat is done.
THANK GOD/DESS; DISMISS QUARTERS; CLOSE CIRCLE
