Samhain/Halloween/All Saints & All Souls Day/Day of the Dead

October 31

Samhain is the Wiccan New Year, and the Festival of the Dead. Traditionally, it was celebrated when the sun was 15 degrees Scorpio. It is the night when the veil between this world and the Otherworld is thinnest. Because Samhain is a night that exists outside of time and it can be used to see any other point in time, this is a night for serious divination.

Samhain is a white harvest, where our ancestors harvested fat, hides and fleeces which were essential to see them through the cold Winter ahead. It was a time to celebrate and remember those who had died.

The Goddess is both Mother and Crone. She is pregnant with the God, and the Wise Hag. She rules the Otherworld where Her God rests between incarnations.

Things generally associated with Samhain: candles, cauldron, pumpkins, the Goddess as Crone, divination, death and reincarnation, and the colors black, orange and purple.

It is the end of the Resting Tide and the beginning of the Cleansing Tide.
