Yule/Winter Solstice

circa December 21

Yule, a minor Sabbat, is the longest night of the year; "the dark night of our souls" when the Goddess gives birth to the God sending new light (hope) into the world. Traditionally, Wiccans lit candles or fires to welcome the God. The Goddess rests throughout the Winter months which belong to the infant God.

Things generally associated with Yule: mistletoe, evergreen, lights, gift giving, and feasts. Also, the colors red (the Sun), white (purity), and green (eternal life).

It is the Cleansing Tide.
