In the Middle Ages juggling was often a part of the wandering
entertainers repertoire. The first juggler to have been described in
detail was the frenchman Pierre Gringoire(born in 1475)
In the nineteenth century Eastern artists found employment with the rise of circus and variety halls, native European and American copied their ideas and soon juggling was an integral part of circus and variety shows worldwide. With the arrival of film and television many circuses and variety halls were closed.
In 1947 the International Jugglers Association was founded and since the mid 1970´s amateur juggling has increased in popularity tenfold. Sweden got it´s bite of the cake in the 1990´s with the nineteenth European juggling festival in skatås; Göteborg.
