Freund, Earl S.
WAUPUN - Earl S. Freund, age 81, of Waupun and formerly of Stoughton, died on Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at the Waupun Christian Home. He was born on December 15, 1916, in Madison, the son of Julius and Jennie (Swanton) Freund. Earl worked as a farmer and a builder. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and traveling. He married his first wife, Evelyn, in 1937; she preceded him in death in 1982. He later married Irma Allan. Earl was a member on the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun, and a former member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Madison. He is survived by his wife, Irma, of Waupun; four children, Robert (Mary) Freund of McFarland, Thomas (Jacqueline) Freund of Lake Mills, Carole (Ronald) Kenseth of St. Charles, Illinois, and Richard (Holly) Freund of Cambridge; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three stepchildren, James (Judy) Allen of Green Bay, Carol (Steve) Golden of Westminster, Maryland, and Elizabeth Ann (Tom) Siewert of Boulder, Colorado; and nine stepchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James; and a brother, William Freund. Funeral services will be held at the GUNDERSON FINERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 1998, with the Rev. Randall Metz presiding. Burial will follow at the Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 1998, at the GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in Earl's name. Earl was willing to assume the risk to follow his vision. His legacy is of a great man who cherished his roots, was devoted to his family, and was generous to his friends and to his community.
