Ida May Mortimer, daughter of John and Susanna Murdock, was born I Valton, April 10, 1876 and died at the home of her son, Virgil, September 7, 1955 at the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 27 days.
When 12 years old she moved with her parents to a farm two miles southwest of Valton where she resided until she was 30. In 1906, she was united in marriage with James Mortimer. After renting for a time, they bought a farm in Mortimer Valley where they lived for a number of years. Five years after their marriage, they lost their home when it burned to the ground.
They sold their farm in 1916 and moved to the Murdock homestead. They continued to take full responsibility of the farm until their son, Virgil, assumed ownership. Mr. Mortimer preceded her in death, having passed away in January of 1940.
Mrs. Mortimer leaves to mourn her passing, three sons and their wives: Gilbert and Dorothy of Eau Claire, Virgil and Sophia of Valton, and Wayne and Melva of Kelso, Washington, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Valton Wesleyan Methodist Church on Sunday, Sept. 11 with the Rev. Lloyd Poe officiating. Burial was in the Valton cemetery.
