Veletta Jean Frye, daughter of Gladys Frye Mortimer and the late Loren Frye, was born in Woodland Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin, on April 4, 1930. She came as the third child of the family and was a real source of joy to the home.
Betty, as she was familiarly known among her acquaintances, spent her entire life in the Valton community. She was a graduate of the Hall school and a member of the 1948 senior class of the Wonewoc High School. Her cheery disposition and youthful energy made her especially popular among her classmates and friends. She will be greatly missed in the Valton Wesleyan Methodist Sunday School and W.Y.P.S. where she attended regularly.
On Saturday evening March 20, Betty was involved in a car accident and in spite of all that loving hands could do, death came at the break of day on Saturday morning, March 27, 1948. She had reached the age of 17 years, 11 months, 23 days.
She was preceded in death by her father, Loren Frye, who passed away in 1939. The following year her little brother Dennis, was laid to rest beside his father. Those who remain to mourn are her mother, Gladys Mortimer, her step father, Oliver Mortimer, who at Betty’s request anxiously waited at her bedside during her affliction; one brother Ezra Frye, four sisters, Neva or Mrs. Donavan Shore of Valton, Dawnene, Sandra and Nancy, all at home; 1 brother-in-law, Donavan Shore, her maternal grand parents and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Valton Wesleyan Methodist church on Monday afternoon with Rev. G. M. Hahn Officiating.
The body was laid to rest under a profusion of lowers in the Valton cemetery.
