My first dog was a collie named Velvet. We got her when I was really small and she lived 7 years. She was a really sweet and gentle dog. She had several litters of pups by a male collie named Yankee. He was a gorgeous tri-color. Velvet was sable & white.

At the same time we had a guinea pig named Snow Flake, an albino. We also had a green parakeet named Chipper. Chipper and Snow Flake often ate together. Snow Flake would squeak whenever we opened the refrigerator since that's where we kept her lettuce. |
When Velvet died, we got Candy. She was a black lab pup. I loved that dog so much, she was my best friend.
Candy had 2 litters of pups, both with the mutt up the street named Adolf. My sister kept one puppy and named her Kelly. She was a regular Lassie! Here is a picture of Candy & Kelly.
Then we got Gypsy the Bassett Hound. Well, my brother Chuck actually "owned" her, but she quickly became my dog. She was so adorable and sweet. As a teenager, whenever I would cry, she would lick the tears from my face looking at me with such a sad expression that it was as if she were empathising with me. But alas, she barked too much and my Dad finally gave her away. |
Now I was petless. A horrible thing.
Tiki was our first family pet. In an apartment, we couldn't
have a dog, so we got the next best thing.
A rat can be a marvelous pet - like having a very small dog. Tiki had a wonderful personality. Kenny was thrilled with his birthday present. He enjoyed playing "hide & seek" with her. She hid under the throw rug and Kenny would find her. Hey, he was only 1 yr old. When she tired of the game she would run to "mommy" for protection. |

Toni was my first dog. I picked her out myself. She
was 9 weeks old. Back then Rottweilers were hard to find - very few people
even knew they existed. Everyone kept asking if she was "part
doberman".

When Toni as just 5 years old she developed cancer of the lymph nodes. I started searching for a puppy before she went, so she could help ease the transition, and Toni could help teach her. I searched for a long time before finding just the right puppy for us. Ayla was only 1 week old when we picked her. |
