Prelude #1
Disaster, Rescue Plans, & Survival

Silence was the only thing to be heard in the compact space of the small ship. No noise came from outside or from the inside. All was quiet, and all was dark. The pilot of the ship stirred slightly and immediately regretted the movement. Pain shot through his body causing him to cringe unexpectedly. He opened his eyes to see the wreckage before him. Everything was blurry at first but quickly cleared. Before him lay his ship in ruins. The controls were utterly destroyed, its wires strewn all over the floor, sparks flying from several gaping holes in the small ship. Nearly everything was destroyed, and yet, the outer walls remained intact. If they hadn't held up he wouldn't be alive.

Carefully he scanned the wreckage. He shook his head weakly. The attack had been a disaster. Not only had they lost the battle but maybe even the entire war. They had been the Universe's last hope and now the others were gone as well as the people's hope. His head dropped sorrowfully. "Why weren't they spared? Why am I alive?" he asked wearily. Then he remembered that one other of the team was alive. She was their last hope. But she was a prisoner. "I have to free her, have to get her back. She's the only chance we have for peace."

The young man attempted to stand, but fell painfully back down to the ground. It took him several more tries but finally he made it to his feet with the aid of his chair. Now he just had to figure out a way to get off the destroyed ship. That and how he was going to get into the place where he would be going. But first thing's first, he had to get off the ship. There were no ships around for miles and who knew when one would come by. It might be too late by the time a ship would come for him. That's when he had an idea. The young man quickly seated himself in his chair once more and fell into deep thought.

"If only I can reach Pollux. Get a message to the castle. To Sven, everything will be fine. I'll be out of here in no time and the princess will be safe." he thought quickly on the mechanics of his lion. "Now which wire was it," he thought. "Red, no, green, no blue. Yes, it was blue." He took the wire in his hand and very carefully hooked it up to the communication device. He pressed a button on the console and spoke, barely suppressing the urge to cross his fingers.

"Planet Pollux, this is Voltron. Sven, Romelle, if you can hear me, we've lost. I need backup right away. Quadrant 0097. I repeat, we need help immediately." he switched the button off and prayed that his friends would get the message in time.
