What is The Order of DeMolay?
The Order of DeMolay is a fraternal organization geared to reach young men between the ages of 12 and 21 years, and teaches these individuals the crucial life skills that they need to develop into better brothers, better sons, and better friends, that when they finally reach the destination of manhood, they will be better men. DeMolay achieves this goal by providing an atmosphere for friendship and fraternity where young men can experience government activities, athletics, theatrical performance, and community service projects. With the help of a dedicated group of adult Advisors, these individuals develop into the adults that form the future of our society. DeMolays learn the virtues of love of family, reverence for sacred things, courtesy, comradeship, fidelity, cleanness, and patriotism, and through these virtues they are molded into strong and productive adults and leaders.
DeMolay strongly encourages original and critical thinking skills, creative planning, responsible decision making and cooperative action. DeMolay provides its members with the atmosphere that gives them the opportunity and chance they need to succeed, as well as the freedom to make mistakes, learn from them, and better themselves as a result. DeMolays believe that every single member is unique and important, than young men think and act seriously and responsibly when given the chance, that every member should have involvement in the decisions that affect him, that we need to share our "fun" experiences, but in a structure where we can learn responsibly and develop our own "style" at our own pace, and that every DeMolay should and needs to have fun and socialize with our peers.
The Order of DeMolay originated in Kansas City Missouri in 1919 when a group of nine young men and a dedicated Master Mason by the name of Frank S. Land, later known by DeMolays worldwide simply as "Dad," joined forces to start a fraternity for young men. Since that time, almost three million young men have found their names to the roles of DeMolay. Several celebrities and prominent political figures (including a President of the United States) have been DeMolays, and a list of these well-known members can be found on this site. DeMolay is truly a learning and growing experience for anyone who has the privilege of joining, and DeMolay can help youth of every race or creed grow to be productive members of society.
The only requirements of joining DeMolay are that you are at least twelve years old and no older than twenty-one years old, that you believe in any Supreme Being, that you are a person of good moral character, and that you petition a DeMolay Chapter.
