HANCE and NOEL FAMILY OBITUARIES

          JOHN H. HANCE FUNERAL

          John H. Hance, son of the late Wm.and Rebecca Hance, was born near Rolla, Phelps Co. MO. on January 12, 1874 and passed away at the Federal Soldiers Home hospital, January 2,1950 after a lingering illness but had been in hospital a short time before passing away. Mr. Hance being a member of the home since 1942.
          Mr. Hance enlisted in the Spanish American War July 5, 1898 and became a corporal in Co. G, Fifth Regiment, U.S. Infantry of the Missouri Immunes. He was discharged February 10, 1899 at Santiago, Cuba. He was a member of General Adna R. Chaffee United Spanish War Veterans Camp No. 35 at St. James, Mo. and also, a member of long standing of Virgil Faulkner Post 2025 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rolla, Mo.
          Surviving Mr. Hance are his wife Rettie Noel Hance, two daughters, Mrs. Alleene Brooks of St. James and Mrs. Clara Capuron of St. Louis; a brother George of Rolla, four grandchildren and two great grandsons.
          Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 5th, 1950 at First Methodist Church of which he and is family were members for a number of years. Rev. R.H. Hicks officiating. Burial was in Rolla Cemetary with Null and Son in charge and graveside Military services conducted by Virgil A. Faulkner Post No. 2025 V.F.W., York Baker Post No. 9470 V.F.W., ROTC Squad MSM.
          Those from out of town attending Mr. Hance's funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Sam Capuron, his son-in-law and daughter; Miss Dorothy Fogelbach, granddaughter, Richard Fogelbach, great-grandson; Mr. W.D. Noel, Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Noel, Mrs. Alene Vanezia all of St. Louis, Mo. Four nieces, Mrs. R. Knight, Mrs. Pat Moneymaker of Mapelwood, Mo., Mrs. Nonie Gregory of Glendale, Calif. and Mrs. Sue Woolrych, of Rolla, Mo.
          Representing Spanish War Camp and Auxiliary, Mr. Walter Weise, Commander, Mr. Geo. Frillman, Chaplain, Mr. O.C. Backer, Adj. and Quartermaster, Mrs. Zelphia Spears, Jr. Vice President, Mrs. James Mallay and Mrs. Effie Garvin World War I representatives.




          FATHER OF MRS. RETTIE HANCE PASSES AWAY

          Mrs. Rettie Hance was called to St. Louis Jan. 26th to the bedside of her father, Wesley D. Noel, who was ill from a stroke. He passed away Jan. 31, 1950 at the age of 92 years.
          Mr. Noel was very active for his age. He was a member of Wellston Lodge, No. 827, I.O.O.F., Mound City Encampment No. 19 I.O.O.F., all of 45 years; also, a charter member of Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees (Local 224) and was in service of the Wabash Railroad for 51 years, retiring in 1937. Mr. Noel had visited at different times the I.O.O.F. lodges in St. James and Rolla.
          He leaves to mourn his passing: one sister, Mrs. J. Fidler of Clifton Hill, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. N. Tatham, Mrs. N. Sanders, of St. Louis, and Mrs. Rettie Hance, of St. James; one son, W.E. Noel of St. Louis; 15 grand children, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and a host of friends.
          Mr. Noel attended his son-in-law, John H. Hance, funeral earlier in January at Rolla before becoming ill. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral in charge of the Shepard Funeral Home. Services by Rev. Edmund Miller, Hamilton Ave., Christ Church.

          NOEL, WESLEY D.---3611A N. Eleventh, entered into rest Tues., Jan. 31, 1950, beloved husband of the late Mary T. Noel, dear father of Nettie Tatham, Nannie Sanders, Retta Hance of St. James, Mo., and Ervin (Dutch) Noel, our dear father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. Funeral Thurs., Feb. 2, 1:30 p.m., from Shepard Funeral Home, 1167 Hamilton, to Valhalla Cemetary. Mr. Noel was a member of Wellston Lodge No. 827, I.O.O.F., Mound City Encampment No. 19, I.O.O.F., and Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Ass. No. 244.

          Willie, the 13 yr. old son of widow Hance, living in the western part of town, died last Tuesday morning after a short illness. He was suffering from chicken pox and went bathing in the pond, resulting in his death.

          At her home to Fort Smith, Ark., after an illness of five months, Mary beloved wife of S.B. Barnhart. Deceased was born in Phelps Co., Mo., March 10, 1872, died March 10, 1904, aged 32 years. The body was brought to Rolla and taken to the residence of L.D. Moneymaker, where funeral services were held by Rev. F.S. Beggs of the M.E. Church at 3pm, March 12, after which the remains were conveyed to the Rolla Cemetary, and laid to rest in the family burying ground, there to await the resurrection of the dead.
          Besides the husband, deceased leaves a mother, one sister and four brothers, viz: Mrs. Rebecca Hance, Mrs. L.D. Moneymaker and George Hance of Rolla, Mo., O.F. and Frank Hance, now in the Army in the Phillipine Islands, besides many friends and relatives to mourn her loss. The family and friends have the sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement.--A Friend



          MRS. ELIZABETH HUSKEY

          Died of dropsy, March 1, 1895, at her son-in-laws, James Huskey, living ten miles south of Rolla, Mrs. Elizabeth Huskey, age 71 years, eight months, 13 days. Sis. Huskey was married three times: 1. George Dillard 1843, after he died, she married 2. John Neace 1852, after he died, she married 3. Daniel Huskey, who passed away three months ago. She leaves four children: two sons and two daughters, Mrs. Wm. Hance, Mrs. James Huskey, Mr. Marion Neace of Rolla, and John Neace of Antler, Texas Co., MO.
