THOMAS BROOKS Oldest Citizen Dies Thomas Brooks was over 104 years old. After being confined to the house for thirteen months, Thomas Brooks passed away at his home in the west part of town Monday morning at 9:40 following an attack of Brights Disease. Mr. Brooks was the oldest resident in the city by far and had but few equals in that respect anywhere. He was born in Athens County, Ohio, January 25, 1808 only five years after it was admitted as a state and during the administration of Thomas Jefferson. Concerning his earlier life, but little is known except that he lived where he was born for a number of years and that he was married there at an early age to Roxina Shannon. When he was fifty-four years of age he moved to Missouri with his family. The companion of his earlier years died in Glenwood in 1871. Seven children had been born to this union. John, the eldest, died in Missouri; Rhoda died in the southern part of this state; Mrs. Isola Rodgers lives in Chandler, Minnesota; Mrs. Anna Fuller's home is in Centerville, IA.; Henry died near Glenwood; Mrs. Laura Martin's home is at Searsboro, IA.; and Sig lives at Linneus. On February 28, 1872, Mr. Brooks was united to Miss Sarah Roop who at that time lived near Hibbsville, IA. To this union nine children were born, three of whom died in infancy and one of whom died here at an older age. Those living are; Amasa, whose home is near Faulkner, Kansas; William, of Fordyce, Ark.; David, of Exira, IA.; George W. of Kansas City, and Noah, whose home is here. Mr. Brooks served in the Mexican War for nine months where he saw some hard service. During the Civil War he enlisted and served for two years and eleven months or until he was honorably discharged. During this war he was injured in the left leg at the Battle of Bull Run and during the battle at Shiloh he was injured by a cannon. He was a member of the local G.A.R. Post until he became to feeble to attend its meetings when he dropped his membership. The funeral was held at the home at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday by Rev. E. J. McKinley after which the body was laid to rest in the Unionville Cemetary. The family desires to express their thanks to the friends and neighbors who kindly aided during the illness and death of Mr. Brooks. Putnam Co., MO. Newspaper 8 May 1912 SARAH BROOKS Sarah Francis Brooks, nee Roop, was born January 9, 1850 in Ohio and passed away October 22, 1947 in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 97 years, 9 months and 13 days. She was married to Newt Baldwin. To this union, one son was born. Later to Thomas Brooks. To this union eight children were born. She is survived by four sons; P.T. Baldwin, Livonia, MO.; Dave Brooks, Seymour, IA.; Will Brooks, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Geo. W. Brooks, Kansas City, Kansas, with whom she had made her home the past nine years. She also leaves 26 grandchildren, 63 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, her husband and five children. Grandma became blind several years ago while making her home with P.T. Baldwin and had been in poor health since that time. Having lived in Putnam Co. in earlier life, she will be remembered by many friends. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the St. John Church, north of Livonia, by Rev. NOAH BROOKS Noah Brooks was born on Aug. 19, 1889, and died on Dec. 8, 1932, at the age of 43 years, 3 months and 14 days. His death was a result of pneumonia. Noah was a member of the first contingent from Putnam Co. to enter the World War, leaving Unionville in June, 1917, and on the 19th of the following September he started across to the scene of war as a member of the 110th Ammunition Train, 35th Division. He served overseas during the remainder of the war. He was married to Cora E. Dennis in 1916, and besides her leaves three children, one boy and two girls; Robert, 13; Ruby, 11; and Vera, 9. One girl died in infancy. He also leaves an aged mother, Sarah Brooks. His father died about twenty years ago. Four brothers also survive him, as follows; Mace, Hot Springs, AR.; William, St. Petersburg, Fla.; D.E., of Unionville; and George W., of Kansas City, Kan. One brother, Robert, is deceased. Three sisters are deceased and three are living. The body was interred in the Unionville cemetary on Dec.9. ROBERT BROOKS From the 19 Aug. 1903 issue of of the Unionville Republican Robert Brooks, 26 years of age, died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brooks in this city last Wednesday about 11a.m., of typhoid fever. He was taken sick three weeks ago at the home of John Wickless in Grant township, but was brought here about a week before he died. He was a steady, industrious young man of good character. He had been working for Mr. Wickless the past two years. His aged parents are grief stricken over his untimely death and they certainly have the sympathy of the entire community. SARAH ALICE BROOKS Sarah A. Brooks of St. James, was born June 20, 1903 in Flippen, Arkansas and died October 12, 1989 at the Rolla Manor Care Center in Rolla, Mo. at the age of 86 years. Mrs. Brooks had lived in the St. James area most of her life and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of St. James. She is survived by three sons, Richard of Poplar Bluff, Orval of Rolla, and Eddie of Bourbon; three daughters, Blanche Lewis of Fairland, Oklahoma, Eulah Chilton and Nadeen Duckworth of St. James; one brother J.D. Deason of Licking; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Clem and Rosetta (nee Kingston) Deason, husband Divinnia, one son, one brother, and four sisters. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14, 1989 at 10:00 a.m. in the James and Gahr Chapel with Rev. Walter Sanders officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Alex Pompe, Jr. and vocal selections were by Miss Corinne Stumpf. Pall bearers were Dwight Edwards, Vernon Matlock, Harold Waldron, Frank Meurer, Doyle Gray, and Charles Redburn. Burial was in Ozark Memorial Gardens Cemetary in Rolla, Mo.
