While just a child he was brought to Wayne Co., Iowa, where he spent his entire life. He was united in marriage to Miss Winnie Sherod, February 22, 1894. To their union four children were born, two of them, Effie and Mildred, dying in infancy. The other two daughters, Orpha and Flossie, are left with their mother to mourn the loss of a loving Christian husband and father. He also leaves his father and five brothers, his mother and two sisters having preceded him in death. Mr. Kelley was converted in his young manhood, uniting first with United Brethren church, and when that organization was disbanded in the community, transfering his membership to the Methodist church. He has lived a truly faithful and consistant Christian life. His many friends will feel deeply their loss in his departure. Funeral services were held from the Bethel church Wednesday morning, conducted by Rev. Morgan. Interment was in the New York Cemetary. WINNIE BELL KELLEY Winnie Bell Sherod was born October 23, 1877 and passed away February 28, 1976 at the age of 98 years, 4 months and 5 days at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa. Winnie was the daughter of Joseph and Ellen Montgomery Sherod. Her early life was spent on farms around the Clio vicinty. She was next to the youngest of a family of five children. Winnie was married to Wordan Kelley on February 22, 1894 and four children were born to this union. They were Effie, Orpha, Flossie and Mildred. Effie and Mildred died in infancy, Orpha Auxier in 1955, and Flossie Blevins in 1973. Wordan Kelley passed away in 1921 at their farm east of Corydon. She raised her two daughters and then spent the rest of her life helping others in any way she could. She later settled in Millerton and enjoyed her home and friends there. In 1971, she moved to Leon, Iowa to the home of her grandson, Verlyn Blevins. Her family and friends were her greatest joys. She was a great correspondent, sending and receiving mail from over much of the United States. She was a strong woman, the center of her family, sharing their problems and pleasures. She had an exceptionally keen memory right up to the time of her passing. Her smile, compassion and cheery notes will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sisters, husband, daughters, one son-in-law, one grandson-in-law, and one grandchild. She is survived by one son-in-law Clyde Blevins, ten grandchildren and their spouses: Doris Tuttle, Rogers, Minn.; Verlyn Blevins, Leon, Iowa; Mildred Egbert, Des Moines, Iowa; Merlyn Blevins, Rewallup, Wash.; Bernice Egbert, West Grove, Iowa; Norma Lee Campbell, Corydon, Iowa; Marvin Blevins, Colorado Springs. (My note: If anyone else has this person, would like to know where she is buried. Obit was cut off and unable to tell. Thanks) |
