The Song of the Turtle Dove
The Song of the Turtle Dove
Sitting on the bank of a slow flowing creek,
I wonder at times if its even flowing.
Muddy, sparsely coated with cottonwood dandruff,
Water spiders skating around, orbiting in an endless
circle that goes nowhere.
Off in the distance a turtle dove sings its familiar song,
I have often wondered, if a turtle dove could sing in words,
what they would be;
“The day is long, the night awaits for me,"
Or maybe;
“I am alone please look for me here, “
Whatever the words might be, they would be both
Too simple to ponder, yet at the same time deep
“I think therefore I am”, or “know thyself.”
Something profound is on this tiny creek bank
Someday I hope to go back and find it, but until I do
I will keep pondering the
song of the turtle dove
