Chapter twenty three

"Shut up."

Mercy didn't move her eyes from the television. Taylor sitting next to her.

"No."

"Shut up or I kick your puny little ass."

"It's not puny."

"Your so friggin annoying!"

"Oh, like you think your not?"

She rolled her eyes at him.

"Stop being a bitch Mercy."

"Fuck off taylor! Who are you to tell me if I'm being bitchy or not?"

"You are, and I'm sorta tired of it."

"Taylor, leave me the hell alone. You are one giant geek. GO AWAY!"

"No! I can sit here if I want. Dorin said I could."

"Leave me the hell alone! You are so annoying!"

"Am not."

Mercy ignored him.

"You know you are so impossible!"

Taylor stood up from the Dentra's new sofa. His shoes clunking on the hard wood floor and stepping from the living room to the bright kitchen.

"Jeremy, your sister is so nasty."

Jeremy didn't glance from his magazine reading, kept intently at the article.

"Get used to it tay."

"I would if I could. She's so mean though."

Jeremy smiled. The now 17 years he'd spent with his sister had proven to be adventerous, and yes siree, she had her temper.

"How come she always blows me off?"

"Taylor, it's her job. Just ignore her. You don't have to like, talk to her.

The relationship Taylor had with Mercy could not be called that. Maybe a love hate relationship, meaning, she loved to hate him. The past couple weeks had just gotten worse, and her insults and nasty comments had come more frequently and had been more hurtful. They had moved into their new house almost a month ago, and both their younger siblings had rejoiced. Not only was their house withing walking distance, but the school was not far from the hansons house either, so zac could come over when he was done.

Their album was due to release in two weeks. They were flying to LA for the release, and then be back. Then who knew what?

"Well, she could try."

"It won't happen."

The two Zac's raced down the stairs, Zac hanson in the lead with The other one close behind. Out to the trampoline.

The Dentra's had not quite known what to do with all the money they had. A lot of it went towards an account, set aside to just sit. But they spent a lot of it too. A lot of it.

A comercial break could be heard from the other room, and even though Mercy had no shoes on, her socked feet could still be heard getting up, and moving to the kitchen.

"oh great. My favorite person."

She walked past Taylor and picked up the phone, dialing a number without looking at the keys, she held the yellow reciever to her ear.

Taylor watched her intently. How could someone that looked so good on the outside be such a bitch on the inside? He didn't understand it.

"Hi Eric!"

Taylor rolled his eyes. He'd only had one confrentation with Mercy's towering boyfriend, but even that was enough to tell himself to steer clear of him. He had some sort of attitude about everything, and he made taylor nervous.

She giggled and blushed.

What just then had he said?

"No, I'll see you then kay?"

She smiled again.

"No! You have to wait!"

Taylor looked at the counter.

"Eric!"

The back door to the house slammed and the two kids came in. Hot and flushed cheeks, they walked to the fridge. D, leaning up against the wall while his friend reached in for the apple juice.

"No! I told you then."

Taylor's eyes lifted back to Mercy.

"Love you."

He sighed.

"By eric."

She hung up the phone, taylor averted his eyes back to the counter.

"You get so cheesy when your on the phone."

Jeremy chuckled as she walked by.

"Shut up Jem! At least I have a boyfriend!"

She patted her brother on the back as she stepped out.

"I don't want a boyfriend!"

He yelled it into the living room, then hearing her laughing response. He looked to his side. Taylor had taken his seat and was staring blankly at the counter.

"Oh shit! I just forgot! I have to to the store before Door gets home!"

Jeremy lept from his counter stool and raced for the door, grabbing his sunglasses and keys on the way out.

Taylor's younger brother walked to him.

"What's the matter tay?"

Taylor looked his brother in the eye.

Looking foreward again, he sighed.

"Nothing Zac. Nothing."

Zac constantly found himself answering the door these days. Usually to some one unwanted, like fans that were just now hearing of this new band, or friends that didn't shut up, eric, or the hanson's little sister.

This time was no different. Sometimes, he just let it ring, let the people pound on the door, and spyed on them out the window.

This time the knocks didn't quit. Must be eric.

Zac pulled the door open, percing his lips into a straight line and meeting Eric's glare.

"Do you know how to answer the door promptly kid?"

Eric walked in, without the invitation, and on his way past, knocking Zac to the side.

"Eric! Watch where your going!"

Eric spun around glaring at Zac. He walked up to him, so close that Zac could smell his breath. He felt like gagging.

"Don't cross me brat."

He turned around again and pounded up the steps. He glared at taylor, who, followed his every step up the stairs.

Zac hanson sat on the sofa, next to taylor, watching Nickelodeon.

"Zac, don't let him treat you like that."

"Oh! Like I really have a choice."

Zac heard his sister giggle from upstairs.

"You guys want to go do something?"

They both stood up.

"Sure, lets git."

Zac walked to the door, grabbing his skateboard he stashed in the closet, he opened the front door. Stepping out into the sunshine of the retreating sun, Zac sighed.

"I hate him so much."

The three of them walked together to the end of the sidewalk.

Zac and Taylor sat down. Removing their shoes and pulling on their rollerblades.

"He is kind of an asshole."

Zac looked down at taylor. He kind of felt bad for him. Earlier that day he had seen that look of disappointment in taylor's face when Mercy was talking to eric, and her closing statement had made his heart sink, it was obvious from the outside.

"Tay. Don't worry. Be happy man."

He half smiled up at Zac, and bent down to tighten up.

"Lets go then right?"

They moved down the street, laughing and talking, yelling, and racing. Neither of them realizing that they were in paradise compared to the next few hours.

Eric sat on the bed. Anger filled his voice and his eyes were on fire.

"I don't get it Mercy! What is up with this whole situation?"

She sat in tears at her desk. He had pumled her with insults, accusations, and forced her to make difficult desicions.

"I think I've been fair to you! I think that I've done my part!"

Inside Mercy was torn up. He was accusing her, of cheating. Of all things cheating! She loved him more then life itself. Could he not see that?

"Damn you! I treat you fair! I love you! This is what I get in return!"

"But eric..."

"You are a lying little wench."

A new stream of tears flowed down her face.

"Him too, I'll beat his ass."

Mercy knew it was just talk, he knew that Eric wouldn't actually do anything to Taylor, he was just talking, making threats because he was mad.

"I can't believe this!"

She had made the mistake of telling Eric how much she disliked Taylor. Or seemed to dislike him anyway, and he had asked her why he would care. Then, from there, he had twisted it into a cover up, and that she must have something going on with him. Now, his anger scared her, and when he got like he was now, he was always furious. He could do the harm if he wanted.

"Nothing happend!"

"You lie! I know you are! You're telling lies to my face now!"

She sobbed.

"Don't you cry! Your the one at fault here!"

She looked at him.

"Eric! It's not like that! I don't have anything....."

"Oh shut up! You liar!"

He stormed from her room. Leaving her upset and crying.

He could be heard slamming the front door and his car starting. It wasn't her fault. Nothing had ever ever ever happened, and now she felt bad not only for herself, but for taylor too. She had just layed some sort of hate that had not been there before upon his back.

She walked to her window, watching Eric's car punch down the street.

"What time is it?"

Taylor looked inquisitively at his younger brother. The one time he forgot to wear a watch, and it was essential that he got home on time.

"Almost 9."

"Great. I gotta get home."

"Tay, all your stuff is at our house, like your wallet and stuff...."

Taylor smacked his forehead.

"Damn! You guys want to come back with me?"

Zac hanson looked up at his brother.

"Let me think about it...NO!"

They were now rollerblading around a developement, and the two Zac's wanted to finish it.

"S'okay, I'll just run back real quick then head home."

He patted his brother on the back and turned.

"Later guys."

They watched him speed down the path towards home. The sky turning from oranges and pinks to darker blues, purples then black.

Eric sat in his car. Steaming over the littlest thing. He didn't know why, but the smallest things made him incredibly infuriorated. What the hell was he supposed to do now? Lately his gilfriend had seemed a little quiet, and those damn hanson kids were always there anymore. What was he supposed to expect from her? Obviously this.

He was parked a block up from the Dentra's house. His motor off, and he layed down, his head resting on his jacket. He had to think about how he could deal with this problem.

It was dark now. The house he parked in front of must have been empty, because no lights were on inside. He lay. Quietly humming to himself, and become calm until he could be no calmer.

He heard a noise. Sitting up he looked out his window just as a blond haired person flew past him. Quietly opening his door he looked to get a better look.

The look on his face twisted from the straight, soft one, to a hardened angry one. He got out, and slammed the door behind him.

The night had been quiet, and so, the so the noise of the car door startled taylor. He stopped. Turning around to see what had made the noise he saw a person. Someone that loomed over him heading in his direction.

Taylor's heart skipped a beat.

The person did not stop coming, but taylor felt himself turning around and pushing himself off with one foot.

Looking briefly behind him, he saw the figure still moving toward him, only at a much faster rate.

Zac Hanson looked at Zac Dentra.

"D. We should go home now."

"They were exhausted. Doing the entire park, and now, heading home. It was a journey.

Taylor had left them almost 20 minutes ago. He would have gotten home 15 minutes ago, and would be headed back to the hanson's house by now.

"Kay, we'll go home."

They sighed. Standing once again from the bench they sat at, the started rolling down the sidewalk towards home.

The second Taylor had picked up his speed, the running person had caught up to him. Taylor had felt his heart jump into his throat.

This person had shoved him from behind, while he was moving fairly fast, and taylor had not kept his balance for love nor money. Crashing to the ground, and hitting while still moving had riped apart the palms of his hands, and his right knee was throbbing.

Turning over to see who this person was, he was hit. Hard, and in the shoulder, making him gasp for breath.

Being pulled onto his back, he stared up.

Eric's furious eyes stared back at him. Full of hate, and more then anything, rage.
