Zac Hanson joked with his friend the entire way home,
even though it was more of a cover up to the events to come. What he had said
affected him and his brother, he knew that, and he wondered how things would go
when he got home. "Hey Han. Snap outta it. You okay?" Zac Dentra looked at
his friend questioningly. "Yeah. I'm fine I guess." He stared back at the seat in
front of him. "I just hope that I can make right the things that went
wrong." "Not really." "Want to go
play some music?" "Is that really much different from writing it?" Taylor
shrugged. "Actually it kinda is." Isaac rolled over on his side. "I just want to
sleep first. You know." "Ike. Wanna talk some more?" Isaac grinned. "Bout
what." "I don't know. Anything. Everything." Isaac sighed. "I've been
thinking Tay." "I'm glad of that. Really, it shows signs of being alive." Isaac
smiled. "About moving out." Taylor sat up. "Moving out? Of this house?
Into your own house and leaving us here?" "Not leaving you here. Just getting my
own place. Me and Angie maybe, or just me. I don't know. I just need space for a
while." "So you'll come back then?" "Tay! No I won't move back in. If I get my
own place then that's where I intend to live. Anyway, mom has enough on her hands
with you and Zac and the girls and Mack. She doesn't need me around here
anymore." "Isaac you aren't a burden to her. Matter of fact she'd keep you under
glass and windex it every 5 minutes if she thought she could." "Funny Tay, real
funny." "Well." They paused. "I just need some space Tay. I need to get
away from here. Away from this whole situation. I think the best way to do it was to
move." "Are you being way serious…or are you just joking. And if you do move,
when are you moving?" "Serious. I've already sort of started looking. Not real
diligently, but I'm still going to look, I have a couple places in mind." Taylor
sighed. "When are you telling mom and dad." "Tonight?" "Sounds like as
good a time as any." "I know. I heard the plane pull in. I
saw it hit the ground." Everyone had left the plane, the stewardess was now just
waiting for the five of them to stand up. "Come on Han, we'll work it
out." She
turned around in the kitchen. "You forgot to tell me your brother was coming
home from New York? He's been gone for a month Taylor and you forgot?" He
shrugged. "Only three weeks mom, and they weren't supposed to be home for a
month, Dorin just told Ike yesterday that they were….Sorry." She raised an
eyebrow. "What's up between you three." "Nothing." She
persisted. "How come I can't even talk to my first born. How come you always
mope around, why did Zac leave to go to New York without asking me and your
father." "Ike just doesn't want to talk to you. I don't know. He just wants a little
time to himself. Not abnormal. I don't mope around, I'm just tired lately, thinking about
song ideas mom. And Zac just left cause he thought you'd say no." "And you let
him go?" "Well, yeah. He wanted to go." She pointed a finger at her
son. "Something's up I gaurantee it. And one of these days here I'm going to figure
it out and all your secrets will be out. You can't hide stuff like that from your
mom." She turned back around to the counter. Taylor smiled. "Probably
mom. But we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it." Zac ran upstairs to his room, Zac Hanson not far behind. He
slammed the door, locking it behind him. "Okay Han, this is how it goes, if you
want, we can put you back in out spot, and you can stay there." Zac Hanson shook
his head. "I can't." "What do you mean you can't?" "I can't. I have to go
home." "No you don’t have to…" "I do D. I have to go home and talk to Ike. I
have to go home and explain this whole thing to everyone. I can't hide from it
anymore." "But I thought you couldn't go home." "Not without being hated.
Not without someone being mad, but now I have to go home and do what I need to
do." Zac Dentra placed a hand on his friend's shoulder. "You sure?" He
gulped hard and nodded. "I gotta go talk to Ike." Taylor jumped away from his mother. "Sorry mom, but he's either not in
yet or he's already here." "Taylor Hanson!" He rolled his eyes. "Mercy does
that mom." "Mercy does what." "She calls me Taylor Hanson when she's mad at
me." "Well I am mad at you." "Well mom, I have Mey to call me Taylor
Hanson, I would appreciate if you would ease off a while." She placed her hands on
her hips. "One of these days you are going to wish you didn't know what girls
were." "Why is that." "Because the second you decide you want kids, and the
second your girlfriend gets pregnant, you'll know what mad is." "Dad said you were
never mad when you were pregnant." "Mad as in crazy maybe." He
smiled. "Well you'll be spending all your money on food." "Food?" "Yeah,
ask your dad, I ate like a horse." Taylor laughed. "Oh, so I have that to look
foreward to." She pointed at him with a smile on her face. "Yes you do, and
when she starts crying because she can't put the crib up right your going to laugh, and
tell her that it's not worth crying over and she's going to cry more." Taylor
sighed. "Thanks for making that experience seem so….magic." She grinned
with satisfaction. "What's that look for." "Was it a good method of birth
control?" Zac Hanson walked
down the walk, only carrying a back pack. "Kay." "Later Han." "Later
D." He walked to the end of the walk and looked down the street. "Here goes
everything." "I know Tay. Is she talking to you
happily now?" "I don't know. The last thing she said was 'sob.'." "Sounds
depressing." "Does it?" "Yes, yes it does." Downstairs they heard the front
door open. "Dad must be home." "I'll get up then." Isaac climbed out of bed,
pulled his hair out of his face and walked to his dresser. "So what are we going to
do about Zac." "I don't really care." "You do too Ike." "Maybe I do. But I
don't want to think about it right now." Taylor nodded in understanding. Isaac
pulled his pants on then slipped a shirt on. "Okay, lets go say hi to
dad." Jessica ran to her brother and wrapped her arms around his
waist. Prying her fingers apart he held onto her hands. "Hey. Enthusiastic you
huh?" She smiled. "I haven't seen you in forever, so I have perfect reasons to be
happy." Zac smiled, leaving her standing by the door. From the dinning room he
heard the clatter of dishes. "Mom?" He listened for the silence, and his mother
appeared, looking a bit frazzled but smiling. She walked to him and placed her
hands on his shoulders. "You have fun?" He nodded. "Glad your
back." He smiled. She embraced him in a motherly hug and she turned
away. "Taylor said you would be in today so I decided to make a big dinner. Dad
should be home tonight late, so it'll be just your brothers and sisters and I." Zac
frowned. "Why don't you take your backpack upstairs and settle in." She
walked away and the clatter could be heard once more. His sisters moved from
their spot in the living room to the steps, making their toys walk up the
steps. "Mom! Dad here yet?" Zac froze as he heard his brother yell from
downstairs. When there was no response from their mother, Taylor and Isaac
proceeded down the steps. "Taylor! You stepped on my horse!!" Avery looked
up and slapped her brother on the leg. "Sorry already. Dad home?" She
shrugged. "No." Without looking up Taylor turned around, shoving Isaac back
up the stairs. Jessica looked up the stairs. "Tay it's Zac that's here. Dad won't
be home for a while." Zac shuddered as he heard the door to their room
slam. Zac threw himself on the sofa. "FINE! SCREW BOTH OF YOU!" He
rested his head on his hand after he yelled after them. He heard the noise his mother
was making stop, and waited for her entrance. "What did you just say Zachary
Walker." "I said screw both of you. That's exactly what I said." He didn't make
eye contact with his mother, but remained stern. She reached down and grabbed his
arm. "That's it young man you come here right now." She jerked him from his
seat and drug him to the stairs. "Excuse me girls. Avery, when the timer in the
kitchen goes off, please turn off the oven." She stepped over the girls things and
continued to drag Zac up the stairs. "Mom what are you doing." He remained
stiff, and let her drag him still. When they reached the landing she walked straight
to their bedroom. Trying the handle she thumped on the door. "Unlock this door
right now otherwise there will be consequences." She waited and was about to
knock once more when Taylor opened the door. "What." She thrust Zac in front
of her and pushed him on, following behind and slamming the door behind her. She
glared at the three of them. Isaac sat on the bed, looking curiously at the scene he had
just witnessed and threw up his arms. "What now." She grabbed Taylor who
was standing beside her, arms folded over his chest and pushed him over to his
bed. Zac stood on the far side of the room, looking at things sitting on the
dresser. "All three of you look at me now." She waited for Zac to turn
reluctantly to her. "I don't know what's gotten in to any of you, I really don't. I
have a feeling I won't know, and if I do I'll be on my death bed and hard of hearing.
But whatever it is it's mutual, and all three of you are involved." Taylor started to
speak up. "Be quiet!" He shrunk back down. "You will all stay in here until
this whole thing is at least somewhat worked out. You won't come out for dinner if
that's how it has to be." "Mom you can't keep us in here." "Oh really. You may
have fame and fortune, and you may think you can do whatever you want. But I'm still
your mother, and I out rule any of those things." She turned on her heel and
grabbed the door knob again. "When you have worked this mess out, then come
down. But don't even think about it til then." She stepped out, shutting the door a
little easier as she left. "Way to go Zac."
"Wanna go write some music?"
"We're here."
"Oh, mom, I forgot to tell you that Zac is coming home today."
"Look! No
one broke in!"
"I missed
him!"
"I'll bring your stuff over later okay dude?"
"Mercy's home today."
"Zac!!"
