Taylor jogged up the front steps to the Dentra's
house. Lately he had been spending the nights there, only because with
three more weeks to go, the Doctor said any day now, especially with
twins. Not even bothering to knock, he stepped inside and walked to the
sofa. "Here ya go. Ice cream. Disgusting rocky road ice cream." He
handed Mercy the two tubs of Ben and Jerry's ice cream and walked to the
chair in the corner. "Thanks major Tay Tay." She immediately pulled
the top off the containers and dug in. "Mey!!" She looked up. "What!
I haven't eaten for 3 hours! I'm hungry!" Taylor frowned as she scooped
more into her mouth. "Okay then eat a little…a little more
delicately." She fluttered her eyelids and took the spoon in her
fingertips. "That alright for you?" Taylor smiled. "Just try not to
inhale it please. I'd rather not make a third visit to the grocery store
today." She rolled her eyes. "Taylor you wan carry these? Want to?
Then you can see just how much fun it is you know. And you can eat all the
time and you can sit on your butt and you can laze around but until then, you
be quiet." He pulled back. "Don't give me that look Taylor Hanson. I
don't want it right now. If this one over here on the right kicks me ONE more
time, I swear I'll pull it out with my bare hands myself." Taylor twisted his
face in confusion. "Mey. That would be bad. Leave that kid in
there." "Don't tell me what to do. S'all I can say is I think their done
cookin'!!" Taylor laughed. "Mom wanted to know if you wanted to go
stay the night at our place for a while. We could ship Zac in with your little
brother, and you could sleep in there. I'll sleep on the sofa." "Tay…you
can sleep in the same bed…." He sighed. "I don't think I'd fit
Mey." Her chin dropped and she scowled. Picking up several throw pillows
she tossed them as hard as she could. "You ass!" He mumbled
something then cracked up. "Jerk off!" "Mey! I didn't mean it like
that!" She folded her arms over her protruding belly. "Asshole." He
smiled awkwardly. "Well do you?" She sighed. "Fine. If you can get
me into your car, without allowing my feet to touch the ground, you
bet." She smiled mischieviously at him. "Mercy. This is another one of
those 'if I get too close you could hurt me' comments, but I could drop
you." "Asshole!!!!!" This time when she said it she started
laughing. "Well go upstairs and get me some clothing. And stay outta the
top drawer! And then come down and help me up." Taylor jumped up and
raced up the stairs. "You spry teen you!!" Zac Dentra sat back in thought. "Oh yeah, Mey is about
to go Kaboom! And so since your house is like, a mili-second closer to the
hospital then ours…" Zac Hanson rolled his eyes. "Tay wants to stay
here but doesn't want to do it with me around." Zac Dentra frowned. "I
didn't say that." "D man, your face says it. And I know your bros. Taylor
tells Ike, Ike tells Door, and Door tells Mey, and you and Mey are kind of
close." "So." "So, ever heard of the grape vine?" "All too
familiar." Zac Hanson walked to his closet. "Fine. I'll pack. How long
am I living at your house." "Ohhh
I'm so excited!! I am SO excited!!" Mercy looked at Tay. "What! She's
excited!" Opening up the door for Mercy, Diana clapped her hands
together and reached her hand out. "Gosh! I hope you don't go tonight, I
don't think I'm ready for tonight. Maybe tomorrow night." Taylor stood up
out of the car, resting his head and hands on the roof, he looked at his
mother. "Who's more stressed mom. You or me." She looked at her
son with a smile. "I'm just excited." "You've made me aware
mom." "Oh Tay you hush." Reaching down she grabbed onto Mercy's
hand and helped her get out of the car. "Gosh I really do hope you don't
go tonight. Give us a while to adjust sweety." Taylor laughed. "Mom.
Take it easy there." She frowned at Taylor. "I'm excited that's
all." He laughed. "Kay mom. You just help her on in the house and I'll
grab her stuff." Dorin sighed. "I know. I know that. It's just. Well, maybe just for a
little while." Isaac nodded his head. "Fine. But if I have company, or
anything, or I need you to leave, you have to do it, don't be like Tay and make
yourself an addition." Dorin smiled. "Mey'll go anytime I'm sure of
it." Isaac grinned. "So. Ready to be an Uncle." Dorin looked up at
Isaac. "You have NO room to talk." "Mey? Why would she do anything on someone else's agenda. It's
all her." Zac Hanson threw a dart at the wall. "Don't man, Door will be
pissed." "So! It's your room! Like he can do anything." Zac Dentra
looked at his friend. "Han, you keep doin' that, and I take the shit for it, I
will make sure you get your end of the deal." Zac Hanson half smiled half
frowned. "Fine then." He set the darts on the dresser. "Okay. So
what do we do now." "We could call Manda and Kris." Zac Hanson
frowned. "They are so…boring." "Not all the time! They know SOME
fun stuff. Just not much." "Like what do they know? They completely
insulted our place D. And they are so…bitchy sometimes!!" Zac Dentra
smiled at his friend. "Han. They're girls." He smiled. "Duh." Zac
Dentra looked up at the ceiling. "I think we should move. To a different
house. This one is so…so…gross and old." Zac Hanson looked over at
him. "Why?" "I dunno. Because everything bad happens here, or
maybe it's just because we're famous." Zac Hanson shook his
head. "Nothings happened since the album came out." "Oh yeah!
Some chick walked up to our front door and spray painted 'I love Jeremy' on it
in hot pink. That's nothing? Mtv called us slowly deteriorating, Rolling stone
said something was missing, VH1 says we're going down, we don't have a
tour, we don't have any better material, and quite personally, I think the last
video sucked." The two Zac's paused as Jeremy stuck his head in the
door. "Hey Zac. Ever think maybe it has to do with Family then everyone
else?" Zac threw a shoe at the door as his brother left. "Oh. So you
think that's bad? Well did you read what rolling stone said about us?" Zac
Dentra stopped. "What." "They said a whole buncha things like we are
lacking motivation, and we need better stuff. So don't feel bad, us
too." They both frowned. "Well Mercy better have these kids soon.
Cause we need to do something." "This is just like a
slumber party!" Diana giggled and popped another grape into her mouth.
"Just like a kid. I love it." Mercy smiled. "So Mercy hon, do you
have any, um, names picked out? You and Tay? It's getting to that time you
know, and well, they do need to be named." Mercy patted Diana on the
leg. "We have some ideas." "Well!! What are they? Anything good? I
mean, of course they are good but…I don't want to sound like I'm pressuring
you to name them after people or anything, I know how frustrating that can
be…but?" Mercy laughed. "We haven't narrowed it down well enough
yet! You'll just have to wait and see!" Diana let out a big sigh. "Well
darn girl!! Am I never going to know!" Remembering he had decided not
to think about Zac, he leaned his head back to rest on the bed behind
him. Letting out a deep sigh he brought his head foreward again. What
was it with Zac anyway. No one could hold a grudge that long. And getting in
trouble for something as severe as drugs was nothing. Zac had no right to
use that against them. It was hard, hard admitting that he wanted Zac back,
and he wanted the times and fun they had back, but it was just as hard to say
that those probably wouldn't come back. And no matter what he did he wasn't
going to be doing the same things they once had back when. Picking up a
magazine on the floor by him, Taylor flipped through it, looking at pictures
and captions. Why was he so difficult anyway. Taylor couldn't help but
think again, that what if. What if things were the same as they had been when
they were all still young teens, Ike not even graduated. What if they went
back the way they were. Truthfully they would never be, because Taylor
didn't trust Zac. He found it hard to believe he was going where he said he
was. Even though Taylor hadn't found any more trace of Zac and his friend's
drugs, that didn't mean they weren't doing them. Although he had the feeling
he had nothing to worry about, he wasn't quite sure. And just what about Zac
Dentra bothered Taylor. Who knew. But in either event, Taylor knew things
wouldn't be the same…ever. Looking towards the door to his room he sat
and listened. Mercy, his long time girlfriend. Look where they had gone.
Through 'who's what's first album, their second, their Mtv and Letterman
interviews. Love, hate, all that inbetween. And now a baby. Two of them to be
perfectly honest, and Taylor sighed. He wanted that, a family, but he couldn't
help feeling scared. One baby, he had been told, was a handful, two, twice as
much. And what about Mercy. How did she feel. She hadn't really said much
to him about the way this would change things. She had, of course, gotten
her digs in at the morning sickness, eating like an elephant, crying, just like
his mother had said she would, getting pissy, Basically every mood swing
possible. And yet she was still sane, and loving every minute of those kids
inside her. Taylor closed his eyes. 19. Nineteen whole years of being
on this planet and look now. Before he knew it he was asleep.
"Why am I going to
your house?"
Mrs. Hanson ran out to the car.
"I got rid of Tay, not so you could come
visit."
"I hope she goes
soon."
Mercy and Diana sat on the sofa
in the dark, evening shows and talking about babies.
Taylor sat on the floor,
surrounded by a pile of clean, and dirty clothing. 18, and his room still looked
like a tornado hit it. Then again, he lived with Zac, a teen, young and spry
with no extra time to put his crap away.
