SOME OF MY FAVORITE POEMS ABOUT DOGS |
A Dogs Soul
Every dog must have a soul
Somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grievances
Are buried with his pride.
Where he decides the good and bad,
The wrong way from the right,
And where his judgement carefully
Is hidden from our sight.
A dog must have a secret place
Where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that
He trusts in and confides.
And when accused unjustly for
Himself, He cannot speak,
Rebuked, He finds within his soul
The comfort he must seek.
He'll love, tho'he is unloved,
And he'll serve tho'badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away
The times when he's abused.
Altho' his heart may break in two
His love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog
An understanding Soul!

A Pets Prayer
Treat me kindly, my beloved master,
for no heart in all the world is
more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I
should lick your
hand between the blows, your patience and understanding
will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the worlds
sweetest music, as
you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep
falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside,
for I am now a
domesticated animal, no longer used to the elements. And I ask no
greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the
hearth. Though, had you no home, I would rather follow you through
ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home
in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although
I should not
reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp
and play and do
your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able
to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great Master see
fit to deprive me of
my health or my sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather, hold me
gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of
eternal rest --- and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I
drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

WHERE DO PETS COME FROM?
It is
reported that the following edition of the Book of Genesis
was discovered in the Dead Seal Scrolls. If authentic, it would
shed light on the question, "Where do pets come from?"
And Adam
said, "Lord, when I was in the garden, you walked
with me everyday. Now I do not see you anymore. I am
lonesome here and it is difficult for me to remember how much
you love me."
And God
said, "No problem! I will create a companion for you
that will be with you forever and who will be a reflection of my
love for you, so that you will know I love you, even when you
cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish and childish and
unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you
are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourself."
And God
created a new animal to be a companion for Adam.
And it was a good animal. And God was pleased.
And the new
animal was pleased to be with Adam and he wagged
his tail. And Adam said, "But Lord, I have already named all the
animals in the Kingdom and all the good names are taken and I
cannot think of a name for this new animal."
And God
said, "No problem! Because I have created this new
animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a
reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG."
And Dog
lived with Adam and was a companion to him and loved
him. And Adam was comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog
was content and wagged his tail.
After a
while, it came to pass that Adam's guardian angel came to
the Lord and said, "Lord, Adam has become filled with pride. He
struts and preens like a peacock and he believes he is worthy of
adoration. Dog has indeed taught him that he is loved, but no one
has taught him humility."
And the Lord
said, "No problem! I will create for him a companion
who will be with him forever and who will see him as he is. The
companion will remind him of his limitations, so he will know that he
is not always worthy of adoration."
And God
created CAT to be a companion to Adam. And Cat
would not obey Adam. And when Adam gazed into Cat's eyes, he
was reminded that he was not the supreme being. And Adam
learned humility.
And God was
pleased. And Adam was greatly improved.
And Cat did not care one way or the other.
