Peter (Heite) Hitt 1680-1683

Peter (Heite) and Maria Liessbeth (Elizabeth) Fruedenberg

The next record that has been found of this Heite family is on Epiphany Sunday, 1707, when Peter Heite, born about 1680-1683, a son of Johann Jacob Heite of Rehbach married Maria Liessbeth, daughter of Johann Henrich Freudenberg and his wife Maria of Ferndorf. Maria Liessbeth was born in 1674, and christened the 4th Sunday after Epiphany. The Ferndorf records show that her father, Johann, was born before 1636 (probably 1635) married May 9, 1667 Maria, daughter of Johann Muenker of Berg. Johann Freudenberg's father was Simon Freudenberg, born about 1600, and married Agnes Hadamar of Krombach June 10, in 1627.

Maria Liessbeth was thirty-three years of age when she and Peter married, and there is no record that they had children either at Siegen or at Ferndorf. She would have been forty years of age when she and Peter came to Virginia in 1714. Spotsylvania Will Book "A," p. 74, June 2, 1724, Peter Hitt stated that he and his wife 'Elizabeth came to Virginia in April 1714 and certificate is granted to him to take up 100 acres of land. Peter Hitt's affidavit indicates that, though married in 1707, he and his wife had no living children when they came to Virginia (or else that they had died . . . at least, no land was claimed for them).

It is believed by most that Maria Liessbeth (Fruedenberg) Heitt died in about 1714-1715 and that Peter Heite married Elizabeth Utterback. Elizabeth was born about 1689, the daughter of Hermann Utterback, a 1724 colonist.

Peter (Heite) Hitt and Elizabeth Utterback

It is believed that Peter Hitt and Elizabeth Utterback married in Germanna in about 1715. Elizabeth was born in about 1689, the daughter of Hermann Utterback and his wife Elizabeth Heimbach, a 1724 colonists. Elizabeth was christened the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost, 1689 in Siegen. Peter and Elizabeth had six known children.

The will of Peter Hitt, dated March 23, 1772 and probated July 27, 1772, mentions his sons John, Joseph, Harman and Peter, and daughter Mary Rector to whom he leaves 100 acres "on which I now live"; son Henry 100 pounds cash; after death of his wife, Elizabeth, the estate to be sold and divided among all the children but Henry.
