Diabetes

Hi, I was diagnosed with type one diabetes in May of 2004. For me it came on (like most) quite suddenly and severly. I thought I had the flu until I ended up in the ER. Luckily I am still here today. I have blogged a list of diabetes info for everyone who finds my site, hope it helps!Personally I am a type one, but I try to include information on other types as well. Especially the often confusing and misunderstood type 1.5. I have scant-no information on type two listed since it is such a heavily promoted topic. Go to www.google.com, and you will get zillions upon zillions of returns for type two diabetes. Im currently well controlled using Lantus and Novalog with my last A1C of 6.0. I believe as diabetics we should strive for numbers as close to non diabetic as possible and shouldnt settle for "good enough"

Often I hear of new diabetics getting little to know information on what to do next, following is my list of where to start ideas

1. Call your local hospitals. Ask dor the diabetes department. Then ask about diabetes education classes. Be sure to comparitavely shop. Every hospital has a bit different program, and very different prices (where I live it ranges from free to 700 dollars) and sometimes insurance will cover it, so check around

2. Your Library, Barnes n Nobles, Amazon.com.. In other words BOOKS...Barnes n Noble had like 15 titles when I went there! There is a great one by John's Hopkins Hospital.. Also one called "ABC's of Diabetes" and a book that is my links writen by Dr Berstein "the diabetes solution". Also I have heard Dr Atkins has one out now too. The first two I mentioned are good starter books, the later too will get you better number control but are stricter in there regime.

3. Call the American Diabetes Association at 1-800-DIABETES... They will send you some great information packets FREE and they arrive pretty quick.

4. The INTERNET.. look through my links, there is a lot of information out there!!
