Profile for Fish Fish The first time i ever saw fish was in a ride Magazine and i thought he was great. Among the many riders i have saw only a handfull do i truly admire their art of freestyle. Fish is one of them. I sent Fish some e-mail to give me some of his story on how he became interested in freestyle and here is what he sent me. Check it out. Let's see... I started riding freestyle in 1986 because I wanted to race BMX but my Mom didn't want to take the time to go to the track every weekend. So I bought some pegs and a front brake and started learning freestyle. The first time I ever saw freestyle was on a Mt. Dew commercial and I remember saying I wanted to do that and my cousin told me I'd never be able to do that. Well, a little while after that I saw Bob Osbourn's complete book of Bmx which had a freestyle section in the back. Pretty soon I was doing no-footed endo's and hopping on the back wheel. My Mom bought me a brand new GT Pro Performer in August of '86 and I was always riding. Within a year I performed in my first freestyle show with the Raleigh freestyle team. My bike was stolen shortly after that and I didn't get a new one for a couple months, but when I did, I was right back to it. I joined a local freestyle team in August of '88 and went to my first contest one month later. At this contest I started what became my trademark for the next three years at all the local contests... decorating the top of my helmet with stuff. It started with a piece of bread, then it was a cardboard fin sticking straight up. At one point I had a Christmas tree with working lights and little boxes wrapped underneath. I competed at all the local contests in the northwest until they stopped in '91. At the time I was riding in pro class. If I were to enter a contest today, though, I think I would enter stuntboy(expert). After the contest stopped I didn't practice much new stuff until I started working for Redline. Then they offered me a bike and asked me to help design it which got me stoked to learn some new stuff. Now I just ride and do shows when I can, which is tough because I have two jobs and a four year old daughter. I'm still working on doing what has been a dream of mine since I started riding, though. I've always wanted to go on tour, doing shows all over the country. Hopefully this will soon come to pass.
