Subject: Punky, Lew & Achi 2 update
Hi everyone: I am forwarding this message, as requested, from Eric & Gail Haws. We are sad to say we won't be able to attend the party or the Moab rally. Anyone who knows us knows our hearts and minds will at both events. We are begining a new life in Florida and it takes every cent we have to get started. Critter has a sick engine with a rod knock, but is still running strong. Achi is tickled pink to have her first job in America -- washing dishes. She wants to contribute, be productive and save money for a car and a home of her own -- get a piece of the American pie. She opened a savings account. We are going to be featured in The Palm Beach Post, Lake Worth Neighborhood Post section on June 4. They are going to mention in the paper that Achi has field experience and a university degree in zootecnia (caring for farm animals) from Peru. The reporter and photographer were knocked out by our story. Achi wants to train as a veterinary technician in a veterinary clinic. Maybe a vet will read it in the newspaper and offer her a chance. Achi has her first reference and work history in America. It's a start. Meanwhile, Achi is studying English at the local high school adult education at night. My chest is bursting with pride and love for this gutsy woman. When I am able to get a computer, I think I might sit down and write a book. So many people have said I should. One guy from Nova Scotia says, "When they make the movie, I want to be Lew." Quite flattering. I'm salivating over the Honda VTX 1800. Would love to ride it on the highways of North America. Punky is fine, still drawing attention like a magnet and still loves to ride. A motorcycle cop stopped me a couple of days ago in Palm Beach. He said riding with Punky on the tank bag was dangerous. I asked him if it was against the law and informed him that Punky rode that way for 45,000 miles all over North and South Americas without incident. The cop said he could probably find a law we broke, but wouldn't bother looking. The only serious problems Punky had were not related to riding the bike and occured before we got out of America.
