==LARS' RECORD LABEL UPDATE==
Lars has signed two bands. One of them is called "DDT" and it sound like
am more accessible version of Faith No More with two lead singers. DDT's
debut album is expected to be out in April.
The second band is called "Gaudie". They are from Texas and they sound
like a poppier Radiohead.

==2/13/1999 WHISKEY IN THE JAR VIDEO "UPDATE"==
The video is one giant fucking lesbian party!
They start off with the view from outside and the out-tro to Breadfan is playing which is damn cool ! Then the 3 riffs start off with a view of Jaymz and into the song they go! There's all these chicks, good ones, in bikini tops and tight Jeans walkin round and smoking and having drinks and joints and shit. Then these 2 chicks go into a bedroom and full on get it on! They take their tops off! Then some chick throws up in the toilet, which we see, and then there is one chick taking a dump or something on the toilet too. All this time, Metallica is in the lounge room pounding out Whiskey in the Jar. Jaymz has his Green flames guitar and Kirk is wearing this crazy purple jacket and shirt! Then towards the end the girls throw the TV out of the 2nd story window before Metallica and all the chicks decide to totally trash the house including the drums!
Keep an eye open for this video (it can only be seen at late night)! The singles will be out on 2/15/1999.

==2/13/1999 THE BIG DAY OUT==
Metallica have announced Marilyn Manson and Placebo will join the bill at their summer stadium gig at the Milton Keynes National Bowl on July 10 in England.
Named 'The Big Day Out', the concert will boast two stages, with seven bands appearing on the main stage and six on the second stage, to be sponsored by hard rock/heavy metal magazine Kerrang!. Both Marilyn Manson and Placebo will perform on the main stage.
Details of other bands performing on the day will be announced soon.
The show runs from 12 noon to 11pm. Tickets are on sale from Saturday, February 20. The credit card hotline is (0115) 912-9115, or via ticketweb.
This will be Metallica's second gig at Milton Keynes Bowl, they previously played there in June 1993.

The original Gene Simmon's Axe Bass Guitar is now in Jason's collection. He purchased the guitar from Guitar Den who had exclusive rights to it. It was priced at $19,800 and it included a "coffin" case.

==WOODSTOCK AND METALLICA COMES TO EUROPE==
Metallica are among the acts performing at a European Woodstock Festival
in Austria in July. The original 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel,upstate
New York, was one of the defining moments of flower power culture. Now 100
acts have been booked to appear at a 30th anniversary festival at
Weiner-Neustadt, near Vienna, from 16-18 July. A week later the show will
reopen in its original home in the US.
Organizers say both events will bring together acts from across the world
with the idea of celebrating peace and music under the motto "one world".
Production designer Mark Fisher - who has worked on shows for the Rolling
Stones, U2 and Pink Floyd - has been commissioned to draw up plans for the
Austrian site, which is expected to attract 250,000 fans.
"We are not going back to the past but hope to re-energize the spirit of
Woodstock as the millennium draws to a close." Lang was involved in the
orginal 1969 event, as well as a 25th anniversary event in 1994 where
Metallica played as well.
Work will begin at Weiner-Neustadt in March on building the site, which
organizers say will be "a temporary city the size of Bonn."

Sepultura and Rob Zombie will be openning acts for Metallica on the
upcoming South America tour. The openning act for Euro '99 tour will be

Lars Ulrich was on Rock Line, a radio show played on stations
here in the US, Friday night. "It's Electric" is going to be the next
single (After the Whiskey single), and according to Lars, he and Hetfield
are going to start writing for the next album in October.

==THE DIAMOND AWARD==
The Recording Industry Association of America will be giving out Diamond
awards to AC/DC, The Eagles, and Metallica. The Diamond award goes to
single titles that sell 10 million or more copies. The awards will be
presented at a special ceremony in New York on March 16, 1999. The titles
being awarded are:

Pantera opened for Black Sabbath last Sunday in Minneapolis. During the
gig Phil Anselmo had some interesting things to say:
We're not like other bands, selling out and changing there style just to
sell some more records. He also said: We are the worst dressed band in
America and we are proud of it, we've been wearing the same stuff since
1989 and we haven't cut our hair like some other bands.

==1/17/1999 WHISKEY IN THE JAR "UPDATE"==
Metallica recorded their second Garage Inc. video on November 22, 1998
with director Jonas Akerlund who also recorded Turn The Page video. The
video was recorded at a house in Brooklyn, NY (they destroy it in the
video) and centers around the band performing.
Whiskey in the Jar video and singles will be released on January 25th,

==1/17/1999 METALLICA SUES VICTORIA'S SECRET==
Metallica filed a lawsuit in the California Western Division of United
States District Court on Thursday (January 14) against Victoria's Secret
and Victoria's Secret Catalogue, citing trademark infringement, false
designation of origin, unfair competition, and dilution. Representatives
for Metallica will serve the lawsuit through certified mail on Tuesday
(January 19). The following is from the lawsuit: "Victoria's Secret
manufactures and sells lip pencils bearing the mark Metallica. The
packaging for Victoria's Secret's Metallica lip pencils also bear the mark
Metallica. These lip pencils continue to be sold by Victoria's Secret
throughout the United States. "Victoria's Secret's use in commerce of the
mark Metallica for lip pencils is likely to cause confusion, deception,
and mistake in the minds of the public with respect to the source and
origin of Victoria's Secret's goods; is affiliated with Victoria's Secret
and/or Victoria's Secret's goods; or has sponsored, approved, or licensed
Victoria's Secret use of the mark
Metallica and/or Victoria's Secret goods offered under such mark."
The lip pencil in question involves a color donned Metallica, which has
been available since mid-1998, according to Jill Pietrini of Manatt,
Phelps & Phillips, LLP, the attorneys for the band. Metallica sent a
demand letter to Victoria's Secret on Oct. 27, 1998, calling for the
discontinuance of the product. According to a source, Victoria's Secret
responded that when their current inventory of the lip pencils were sold
out, they would change the name. The two sides, however, could not reach
an agreement. Victoria's Secret will have 30 days to respond to the
complaint once it has been filed.

==METALLICA ON ROCKLINE==
Metallica will make yet another appearance on the syndicated radio
program, Rockline. The program invites listeners to talk with rock stars
and is broadcast on Monday and Wednesday. Metallica will appear on a
Monday night edition in February of 1999.

==GERMANY IN MAY==
Metallica will be playing the Rock IM Park Festival in Germany, which is
goes from May 21-23, 1999. Apparently, Rock AM Ring is one of the biggest
festivals in Germany, and a few years ago, it simply got too big... So the
organizers split the 'original' Rock AM Ring to Rock AM Ring and Rock IM
Park. Now it always works like this - both festivals last for 3 days and
the bands that are playing "Park" one day are playing "Ring" another day
and so on...But the two festivals together are still known as Rock AM
Ring, simply because it was the original name.
