Vancouver. He thought this was the first step to the end. Micheal Katleman was directing David and Gillian in the new episode by Morgan & Wong. "Shadows". He wasn't very convinced of that script, but it was too late, and the high people of Fox Network liked it. Carter wasn't sure the show could go on for long. He liked it very much, what the hell, he spent a lot on it. He did a lot of work to create that show, and now he wasn't sure if "The X-Files" would finish its first season. Chris snorted. He closed his laptop and got up. Time to go home. Once he was at his hotel room in Vancouver, he thrown himself on the couch and closed his eyes. Well, if that Show wasn't going to succeed, he could write another one... But that was soooo goooooood... Carter sighed. He loved it. It was his first-born. A knock on the door started him. "Who is it?!" he called out. "Mr. Carter?" A female voice. "May I come in?" "Yeah." he said, tired. "I hope I'm not boring you." said a young woman, entering. Carter looked her intently. Did he know her? She was slim, dark haired, with dark, deep eyes. "Do I know you?" "Hm... No... No, you don't know me." Carter sat up and invited the woman to sit in the armchair. "I really don't have this kind of visits..." "What kind do you mean?" she replied. "Late at night, from strangers. How did you get in the hotel?" "I have a room in here." she said simply. "Logical. And... how did you get my room number?" "Mr. Carter, I'm not here for these questions." "*Who are you*?" he asked, a little irritated. "I'm... I'm only a fan of yours. But this isn't important." "Fan of mine?" "Yes... yes... I'm..." "How do you know me?" "Your Show. The Show. "The X-Files". It's great." "Oh... Thank you. You watched just three episodes and you say it's great. It's too kind of you." "Mr. Carter... Can I call you Chris?" "As you want..." The woman grinned. "Thank you... Chris... Hm... I watched... more that three episodes." He got up. "So you was on the set..." Carter went toward the mini-bar. "No." she said. He didn't weigh her answer. "Wine?" "Yes, thank you." she said. He gave her a glass. "So. What are you here for?" "Well... The Show... The X-Files... has a great future." "Hm... I hope so." He said, sipping his wine. "No, you don't want to understand. I know it." "You *know* it?" "Yes." "Sure." "Chris, listen. I come from... hm... from the future." "Yes, and Gillian is taller than David." "Come on, Chris, we all know it isn't true. And I know you're skeptic. Ok. Don't believe me." "Ok." "Ok." "So?" The woman shift in her sit. "Well... I want to... hm... to say that. You'll have to fight for your show. But I know you'll win." "Yes. And I'll win a award too." "More than one." Chris laughed. "You... what's your name?" "Hm... not important." The third glass of wine started to do effects on Chris. "Sure... You know I'm thinking about leave all and returning surf in California..." "No! You can't do that!" "I can. And than I have, I did, it's done." "Hey, remember this sentence, it's great... But now... you're only tired." She sat down near him. "I'm here to tell you that you can make it. I saw your future work... I saw a lot of think you'll make." "Wanna a good psychiatrist?" The woman smiled. "You'll do seven seasons of The X-Files." "Seven? And why not eight?" "Because you all will be so famous that you'll looking for something other... And well... I come from where you've done six seasons... I do not know if you'll have the good idea to go on." "Ah-a." Chris leaned over her. "Tell me something, future-girl." "Ok." she sighed. "You'll do a very good job, win a lot of awards, Mulder and Scully will start to live their own lives..." "Hey hey hey... Stop there. What do you mean with that?" She shook her head. "You said it. And you will see it." "Ok... Go on." "You'll make the movie." Chris burst out laughing. "Movie? We are going to close up in three weeks and you'll talking me about a movie..." "No, not *a* movie... *The* Movie." "Yes. Sure." Chris smiled at her. "Why not two or three movie?" "Mh... well... As I said, I come from a point where you have to do again the 7th season. But you're going to do the other two Movies or more." "Girl, you've got too much fantasy." "Sure. Ah... Chris... we... your fans, do really not like that Fowley... nor the other one... S.V. Markson, in the 5th season." "Ok..." "Yes... Chris, don't fight *this* future." "Ok. I'll try again with The X-Files, happy?" She smiled. "A lot." "Girl, you've got too much fantasy..." He leaned over her and tried to kiss her, but she backed. "Chris, you've got a wife..." "Sure? Girl, I'm going to marry too..." "Chris, you *are* married yet." Carter, who was leaning again on her, frowned. "Really?" "Dori Pierson." She sighed, slipping her arms around him. "You married her in 1987." "Oh, yes... yes, you're right. Now I remember." She smiled at him. "I've got to go." "Your temporary door is going to close?" The woman smiled and he kiss her tenderly on the lips. "Wow... They aren't going to believe this..." she said. Then she got up and went to the door. "And Chris... Thank you for all your work." "Not at all, girl. Thank you for your feedback." "So... good night." "Uh, girl?" "Yes?" she said a little annoyed by this "girl" surname. "I like that sentence..." Chris yawned and leaned down on the couch. "Which one?" "That... one..." Yawn. "Chris?" "Yes?" "I love you." "Oh brother." The woman laughed. "I've already heard this dialogue." Then she shouted the door, and Chris drift off sleeping. The next morning... "Hey? Chris? You're on earth?" Carter looked up to see David Duchovny talking to him. "What?" "You're a little out today, what's up?" "Oh, nothing. Just... a strange dream. How about if I tell you I think that we could go on for seven seasons?" "I have to review my contract, in that far and strange case." "Yes, sure. And two or three movies." "Chris, you ok?!" "Yes." Chris finally got up. "I can't remember a sentence I made up in that dream... It was great... it was something like... "fight your..." no... "fight the future"... oh, yes. It was "fight the future."" "Yeah, great." David looked at him. "What the hell it means?" "For now..." --I don't know...-- "...We'll have to go on." During the 4th season scripting... Chris was typing: S.V.: "We can go out to dinner... Remember the old times..." Mulder: "I... uhm... S.V.... I know you..." S.V. leans over and kisses him. Mulder enjoys. Chris stopped typing. "S.V. Markson... I don't know, Vince." Gilligan looked up from his laptop. "What?" "This woman with Mulder... I don't if keep her." "Why? You were so sure of it..." "It?" "Her." Vince corrected himself. "Yes... but now... I think I'll cut this character. She's so... I really hate her!" "Chris, calm down!" Vince said. "Ok, cut her. I really don't think she'll be a woman the fans could like." "No, sure... There was another..." "Of what?" "Oh... nothing..." Chris tried to remember which character the "future-girl" (as he started to call her with himself) had said the fans will hate. It didn't come... If he hadn't drink so much wine... He didn't believe that was real, but you never know... "And... Vince, I find a title for the Movie." "Sure? So it isn't "Blackwood", I assume." ""Fight the Future"." "Great." Vince said. "Where does it come from?" "From the future." he said. "What?" "Nothing. Vince, if a girl come to you some years ago, telling you that The X-Files would be going to be success, and so on... would you believe in her?" "No." he said simple. "Neither me." Chris Carter got up and walked down the hill, looking the crowd of fans. Was she real? Could he find her and thank her? He didn't know. She was right. Mulder and Scully were living their own lives. He took his laptop and wrote a little dialogue. Mulder: "Scully?" Scully: "Yes?" Mulder: "I love you." Scully: "Oh brother." It could be useful... in future. THE END You Know What You'd Have To Do?
