Twas the night before Easter
And all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring,
Not even my spouse.

The baskets were empty,
But the eggs on to boil;
As I took to my cookbook,
"Eggsordinary," ways to toil.

The children were nestled all
Snug in their beds;
While visions of Easter eggs
Danced in their heads.

While out on the lawn,
I heard such a clatter;
To the window I was drawn,
To see what was the matter.

And what to my wondering eyes
Should appear,
But a big yellow rabbit,
With big lilac ears.

His eyes, they were blue,
His nose like a bean,
And his tail was like cotton,
That wasn't too clean.

He bounced and he hopped,
And when he was through,
Eggs had been dropped,
Even down through the flue.

He left chocolate bunnies,
And eggs green and yellow,
But all that I wished for,
Was my bed and my pillow.

So I crept off to bed,
With a prayer I was dreaming,
But as I laid down my head,
The kids began screaming.

This nightmare I'd had,
Came into full bloom,
I found rabbits and eggs
All over the room.

The kids stuffed their mouths
With all of their might.
Happy Easter to all,
Pepto Bismol tonight.

The Night Before Easter was written by Barb Baucom and me, Sandy Oidtman. Of course, it is a spoof on The Night Before Christmas. We had so much fun writing it and hope that you get a hardy laugh from it.
