This poem was written and then dedicated to Juanita Kunzler on
May 13, 1980. She was an amazing woman. Ms. Kunzler was the principal of the small grade school my daughters attended. She had an unbelievable amount of patience and joy to share with her students. She taught not only by words but also by example. Many of our children have grown to be better adults because of her tutelage.

You Taught My Child

You taught my child to keep her faith,
You taught her how to hope;
You taught my child of men so great,
Of presidents and popes.

You taught my child there's beauty,
In trees and birds on wing;
You taught my child of flowers,
And the songs that nature sings.

You taught my child of music,
In her heart you put a song;
You taught my child of patience,
Even when the time is long.

You taughter my child to read,
How to figure up her math;
You taught my child to follow,
God's holy, righteous path.

You taught my child of Jesus,
Of graces from above;
But, most of all, Juanita,
You taught my child to love.
