Sometimes we must hurt a friend even though it is the very last thing we ever want to do. In the process, we often lose that friend. This makes for a sad situation.

Lost Friend

I lost a friend today,
One who is a gem;
I told him how I felt,
That I was not in love with him.

I didn't want to hurt this man,
We have ridden a rough sea;
But I couldn't let his love grow,
When I knew he wasn't for me.

I need a man who is strong in will,
Yet not afraid to be kind;
Someone who can share my love
In body, soul and mind.

He didn't have the strength I need,
He was a puppy on a string;
I've been a pillar far too long,
It's time for freedoms ring.

I guess that I will miss him,
Boy! For hours we would talk;
But I need not to be followed,
Beside me, my love will walk.

Our interests were so different,
In fact, we shared few;
But I tried to be there for him,
When his heart was broke in two.

Someday I hope he'll understand,
And we can once again meet;
For friends are treasures to behold,
And this one is really neat.
