There once was a man I loved,
But alcohol took over his life;
And one day I realized
I could no longer be his wife.

For years I prayed for help,
I wanted the Lord to tend;
One day I got His message,
The marriage would have to end.

Even though it hurt down deep,
I had to obey God's will,
He said that He'd be with me,
And, believe me, He's with me still.

Now this man is quite a man,
His life he turned around;
He is now a great father,
His children he has found.

He has grown to be strong,
Stronger than I, I will admit;
His love shines in his eyes,
For our family, he's a fit.

Right now he is my friend,
A man I can admire,
Only God knows the future,
Will an old flame become a fire?

I have not the answers,
But this I know is true;
He isn't the man I married,
He's a man that's brand new.

If you have never lived with an alcoholic, you can't possibly imagine what it is like. If you do live with an alcoholic get help. The alcoholic's effect on everyone around him/her can be devastating. My ex-husband is now a recovering alcoholic. He has been dry for over 8 years. We talk about those days and we talk about today. So much has changed for both of us. We have become close friends and enjoy each other's company. If anything more is to come of it, only God knows.
