PWL News Items for January 9, 1999
A huge event for the PWL took place
this past Thursday night. Three titles changed hands, with one man now
possessing both heavyweight championships! Here's what went down:
MASCARITA DIABLO successfully defended the Midgets' title once again,
defeating MINI TRAPEZOID in 9:29 with a second-rope moonsault.
URSA retained her Women's World title with a pinfall victory over ALICE THE
GOON. The match ended at the 4:16 point following botched interference by
Alice's cohort OLIVE OYL. Ursa, by the way, was the only NEW ORDER member
present at the show. More on that in a second...
Cruiserweight champion RUDY fought former champ STARSHINE HIPPIE to a
thirty-minute draw. This was probably the most athletic of the evening, and the
fans gave both competitors a standing ovation at the end.
GRIMACE regained some momentum in the PWL by winning the ten-man heavyweight
battle royale. After the match, he told us, "I've been holding back far too
long. It's time that my fans and all the wrestlers here saw what I'm truly
capable of accomplishing. Grimace is back, everybody, and I'll go through
whoever it takes to win that World heavyweight title. Tornado, Seth, Plague, you
all have been warned. The big purple menace is gunning for all of you
has-beens!" Why did he include Plague in his speech? Stay tuned...
STRIKE FORCE, after only a short time in the PWL, has simultaneously
surprised and delighted the fans by capturing the World tag team championships!
It was no easy task, though, as they had to get past defending champs THE
MIDNIGHT EXPRESS and THE THUNDERFEET, also former champs. The
fifteen-minute-plus bout was quite confusing to watch, but very exciting as
well. Kudos to THUNDERFOOT II, who, in defeat, proved extremely resilient,
kicking out of BEAST and CARNAGE's famed Eliminator finisher. The new champs are
quite tough, indeed, as Carnage managed to withstand a mirror to the back of the
head by SWEET SULLY, and Beast went through a table after THUNDERFOOT I moved
out of the way. Beast recovered, of course, and planted BEAUTIFUL BIFF with a
DDT before the pin and win.
GENERAL ZOD and NON mysteriously no-showed the event. This looked
particularly bad, as Zod was scheduled to defend the North American heavyweight
title against the much-despised PLAGUE. The angry Plague was awarded the North
American strap. He wasn't content with that, however, and began pummeling the
PWL suits that gave him his belt. PWL President GENE WEST appeared from
backstage, saying, "Plague, you have gone on record saying you would face
anyone, anytime. Well, tough guy, I have a proposition for you. There's a world
title match coming up next. HUMAN TORNADO and SETH have said they'd be more than
happy to take your new belt and send you packing. How about it?" Plague
showed his approval by walking over the beaten executives.
The big match was now a three-way dance. Human Tornado and Seth seemingly
were working together in an attempt to put Plague out of commission. Plague was
able to gain the upper hand, though, and match calmed into a one-on-one bout.
The end of Plague came very close to happening, as Seth nailed Plague with a
running tombstone piledriver at the nine-minute mark. One, two, ... NO! Plague
kicked out, and the fans were stupefied. Plague roared back, and evetually
knocked Seth out of the ring with an astounding suplex over the top rope. Human
Tornado was ineffective wrestling Plague by himself. Tornado tried, but was
unable to escape a piledriver from Plague. Three seconds later, it was over, and
Plague now holds both the World and North American heavyweight championships.
Though they hate Plague, the fans applauded him and the other two for their
incredible efforts in the bout. Truly an incredible night, as Plague is now the
only man to hold both PWL heavyweight titles at the same time. There will be
more on the new champions in the coming weeks, as they find out what it's like
to be the hunted rather than the hunters. I'm sure we'll hear from the undercard
wrestlers for being relatively slighted in his report, but big news is big news.
Keep stopping by the website, and as always, thanks for supporting the PWL!
PWL News Items for January 1, 1999
Happy 1999 to everybody out
there! Here's what's going on right now in the PWL...
THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS are once again the World tag team champions. They
defeated THE THUNDERFEET for the straps on December 27. The 'Feet claimed they
lost because of the attack handed to them the night before by STRIKE FORCE, the
new tandem that's taking PWL fans and their enemies by storm! Now, all three
teams will take each other on in a three-way dance for the tag team titles on
Thursday, January 7. This may be the shortest reign yet for the Express.
Also taking the PWL by storm is the dreaded PLAGUE. This competitor has won
numerous titles in other organizations, and has his sights set on GENERAL ZOD
and the PWL North American title. These two will also do battle on the 7th.
HUMAN TORNADO has been able to hold on to the World heavyweight championship
despite tough challenges from GRIMACE, HULK BIXBY, and NON. Now, it seems his
next challenge is the mammoth SETH. Tornado told the PWL, in no uncertain terms,
that he will get past Seth will relative ease. seth had no comment. As of now,
no match has been set, but don't be surprised if these two stars are in the
building come January 7 (that date just keeps getting more and more important).
NC-17 (DIRK MERCURY & TRIPLE X) are extremely upset that they have been
overlooked recently in the tag team scene. "We're ready, willing, and
definitely able, folks," Mercury said. Added XXX, "The Express, Feet,
and Force had best gear up for the hardcore boys of NC-17. When they're through
clobbering each other, we'll move in for the kill and get what we deserve, those
tag team straps." It is likely that the Top three tag teams think NC-17
deserve something else. This has the potential of being a major story of 1999.
That's all for the first report of '99. keep reading though, as there will
surely be more in the days leading up to next Thursday. Thanks for supporting
the PWL!
